Polaris Sportsman starting with WRONG key

I own a 2014 Sportsman 550 touring and a 2014 Sportsman 850XP H.O. The other day I was moving my 850 and I accidentally stuck the key to the 550 in but it turned and started with no issues. I found that I am easily able to start it with the wrong key within a few seconds every time just by wiggling it while turning. However, the key to the 850 will not start the 550. I am curious if anybody has ever experienced anything like this.

How to mod an XP winch mount to fit a Superwinch

My HD 3500 Polaris winch broke.

Ordered a Suoerwinch Terra 3500 synthetic and when it arrived I realized it was too large to fit the factory winch mount.

Here is a few basic pictures of what I did to make it fit.

Zip cut line drawn

Make shift floor vice and a little heat to open it up

Weld in a 1" piece of flat bar and voila, new winch fits good.

Only other mod was having to move all the wiring from the passenger side of the quad to the driver side so the winch would run the proper direction.

Cheers

Got a gremlin and need some help

My solenoid on my 06 stopped working or I thought it did so I replaced it with a new one. Well guess what? This one will not engage either for some reason. My battery is charged because I can bypass the solenoid and it starts right up. With the solenoid hooked up I am getting power everywhere except for the starter. The turf mode solenoid engages, fuel pump cycles, lights all come on and so on. I just cannot figure out why both solenoids will not work for some reason. Anybody got any ideas of what it could be. I just wonder what the chances of having 2 bad solenoids are. I called and talked to the people where I got it from and he suggested checking the key switch because it is suppose to send a small charge to the solenoid to engage it when the key is turned on.

AWD Acting up

G’Day Gents

I was hoping for some help in my newest problem. I have a 2010 Sportsman 400 HO (hawkeye) with 26" tires. The last two times I was out my AWD has been acting up. We have been doing alot of ice riding and it is quite evident. After the first trip I checked and have the correct amount of Ohms at the front gearcase. I checked and ensured my battery and charging system is good. I am getting well over the 11.8 volts at the front gearcase. I figured I had it figured out as it was working again. Then went out the second time and was acting up again. To test it on the trail I would plant the front at the base of a large tree and give it throttle. It would kick in eventually but it took a lot of throttle and then it would violently "SNAP" in to 4×4 and would work normally until it disengaged and would have to rev the S&*% out of it to SNAP back on. Always violent. Figured it was just frozen.

I let it thaw out in the garage over night and most of the day then went out this evening to check it out. Put it on the hoist and nothing at first then revved the S&^% out of it and "SNAP" working again. took it out for a rip and no change every time i needed it i would have to excessively rev it.

What does this sounds like? I am baffled

Some things I noticed:
– The prop shaft from he tranny to the front gearcase doesn’t turn very straight.
– After the load "SNAP" while it was on the hoist I rolled each CV Axle and they turned independently (I remember them always normally turning in tandem)
– When I was diagnosing it after the first ride I drained the fluid and there was quite a bit of shavings in there (prob drain and inspect tomorrow)
– I know I need a new belt but don’t think that would cause this (another problem why am I burning through belts?)

Thoughts on fixes:
– through my searching i found that the 500s had a grounding issue with the speedo. Would this cause my problem? there is nothing if the AWD kicked in with excessive throttling.
– If it is the armature and roll cage do they even make a metal one for my ride?

I will take a video tomorrow and upload it.

any advice or expertise in the matter will be greatly appreciated.

FYSA – I have posted in another forum to better my chances but this forum is were I spend my time.

tail light

Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place for this question.
I have a 1996 sportsman 400. Bought it about two months ago, its my first ATV.
I replaced both front head lamps and the tail light bulb. With the key on, both head lamps come on only with the switch on low beam, both lamps go off when switched to high beam. I assume this is normal due to the bulbs i put in. Not an issue, its plenty bright.
Used an 1157 bulb for the tail light. Tail light comes on when the key is turned on and brake light comes on when i hit the brakes. Tail light is always on when the key is turned on, even with the light switch in the off position. Is it supposed to be that way? Maybe some kind of a safety feature or do i have a faulty on/off light switch? Will it hurt anything to leave it this way? Also i replaced the battery at the same time.
Thanks

Front diff not locking in

2008 sportsman 800 front diff wont lock in four wheel drive. Before I order parts, without tearing it apart, im looking for ideas on what it could be. First I was thinking the Sprague since I am running 28" gorillas with the factory one. Probably not the best idea I know. Just wondering if the superatv aluminum upgrade would fix my issue? Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Primary clutch problem

Hello, I have a 2001 Polaris Xplorer/Trail Blazer, 2 stroke, oil injected. When I start it up in neutral all is well. When engaging in forward or reverse it slams in a bit hard and wants to inch forward. When I apply the brake it dies. I took the cover off the transmission and had some dirt in the weights and other places. Cleaned all areas and lubed up my weight so they were more free of movement. Put the belt back on and still have the problem. Internal bearing? Any help on this would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

Coolant Problem

Hi,Happy New Year all. I have a 2002 Magnum 500
This past week I noticed one day my overflow bottle was almost empty so I filled it up to between the lines. Couple days later I noticed antifreeze on snow on top of left foot well. Reservoir is empty and can’t see any antifreeze in rad. What should I be looking for, I am starting to take fenders off to get a better look.
Any help appreciated.

“LO” VOLTAGE SIGN. please help!

i posted a few weeks back about a "lo 10.8" sign that pops up when i use my lights. i did replace my battery and it still does it

Does this seem like i need a new rectifier or stator?? i am no mechanic lol!!

anyone have this issue?

Winch Wires Against Radiator

When I was installing my new Superwinch LT2500 on my 2016 Sportsman 570 the wires from the solenoid to the winch were 2 feet to long so I purchased a couple 24" cables from Autozone. These were just the right length. The wires are right against the radiator as you can see in the pic.
Does anyone know how hot the radiator gets? Should I protect these wires or change out with longer wires?
