NEED HELP!! 1997 polaris xplorer 400 engine wiring

hello im new to this forum and in need of help. i am having extreme difficulties figuring out the wiring on this engine. i just picked up a go kart a few days ago and it has a 1997 polaris 400 2 stroke engine and i cannot get spark. after messing with the wiring it ran for about 1-2 minutes then shut off and wouldnt spark and i tried it the next day and it did the same thing, it ran for about a minute then out of nowhere it didnt have spark. and yesterday i was able to get 1 single spark out of it and since then i cant figure it out. i have tried eliminating all wiring except the cdi, voltage regulator, and the coil. which is all i want anyways but i cant figure out how to have it hooked up to each other and work properly. if anyone out there has any idea on how to bypass all the wiring and get some spark please let me know! it will be very very appreciated.

XP 850 does throttle switch kill spark or fuel?

Hello Polaris Community. I have looked everywhere for an answer and cannot find one so I am hoping someone can give me advice.

One afternoon I started the quad and quickly put it in reverse and backed up. I then drove about 200 ft forward and the quad died almost like the kill switch was flipped.

I did the normal spark plug change, and played with the throttle cable but nothing. I have pressure at the fuel schrader valve. The only way it will fire is by spraying fluid in the air box and it will die quickly after.

Can someone confirm whether the throttle protection switch cuts either spark or the injection signal.

Thanks in advance.

!999 Sportsman 500 starting problem

I have a 1999 Sportsman 500 and a 1999 Magnum 500, both 4×4. The Magnum starts and runs fine and I use it as a base line and parts trying to figure out problem with the Sportsman.
The Sportsman will not turn over or start. Using a voltmeter and comparing results with the Magnum the problem is with the key turned on and the switch (on-off, headlight switch) in the "on" position but not pushed up to start. On the Sportsman, I’m getting a voltage reading from the cable coming from the starter motor (even when not connected to the starter solenoid) of around 2-3 violts. On the magnum it it zero. The battery, the battery terminal on the starter solenoid and the red wire going into the voltage regulator all read 13 Volts. Also I have disconnected the little red wire coming out of the starter solenoid.
I have swapped out the "on-off headlght switch", the starter solenoid and the CDI unit with the Magnum. The Magnum continues to start and run without any problems and the Sportsman contines to have the same problem.
I also notice if I disconnect either of the fittings on the "on-off, headlight switch" the voltage reading drops to zero. Headlights do not work.
Any ideas? I’m trying to avoid taking the stator out until I’m sure its not something else.

2015 850 SP spark plug question

The manual shows to run an Autolite 5682. I am googling like crazy and am not seeing that part number from Autolite anywhere. Am I missing something ? I’d like to buy a set just to keep in the toolbox for when my stockers foul out. Any suggestions ? Cross reference to anything else ?
Thanks for any help you can give.

FYI-Hawkeye idles fine/bogs down accleration

So I already figured out what the issue was, just posting for information.

Wen’t running through some deep puddles the other day, but drove fine the rest of the day and the following day. Cranked it today to text out my new ramps to load up in the back of my F350 with 3" body lift on 35’s. Then drove it around and this is how it acted:

Pulled the intake off and had water in the bottom of the airbox…..thought it was suppose to be waterproof :nixweiss: Drove it around with the seat off and putting my hand over the intake tube (filter off) to give some restriction. Drove like it should. Guess it took some time for the filter to wick up the water to cause an issue.

Anyways, hope that helps someone.

Has anyone put a snorkel on a Hawkeye/300?

And I noticed some people saying Hawkeye’s weren’t 4×4 and I can only find a 2×4 manual for a Hawkeye….but mine has 4×4. Anyone know for sure if 4×4 Hawkeye’s were produced?

Draining my carb

Hey gang,

Silly question to ask… My Sportsman 2013 500HO has been sitting all winter due the amount of snow we received here in New Hampshire. I wanted to drain the carb before I start it up to get rid of the old gas in the carb. Question is, how do I drain the carb? Is there a screw on the side of the carb or do I have to remove the bolt on the bottom of the carb (which I cannot get a box end wrench on)? Thanks guys!!

Wheel Bearings / Tires have play?

I’m just wondering how much wheel play there should be on a 2011 sportsman 500 touring. All four of my wheels have a similar amount of play. (Maybe around 1/4" top to bottom push/pull)

I was wondering if this is normal or not? I replaced my rims (STI HD3) and tires (Traxion Radical 26×9-12 and 26×12-12 Traxion Radical Tire – ATV Tires Canada) around this time last year.

I don’t hear any grinding when I jack the machine up and let them spin freely.

Anyone know what the torque specs are for the axle nuts? Do these become lose over time? Would this affect the play?

I don’t recall if there was any play on the wheels when I replaced them. I have a big ride coming up on April 25th, and was hoping to get some feedback before then. I’m away for work but will try to post a video when I return.

I hope I’ve managed to explain this well. It’s one of my first posts to the forum, but I’ve been a long time lurker trying to absorb as much as I can.

Thanks
