I still have a little play in both rear wheels after replacing a lot of components in the rear wheel. Below is the list.
1. Replaced all bushing in the rear with jccapri bushing kit (upper and lower a-arm, shocks, upper bushing for wheel bearing carrier) for the Sportsman 500.
2. Purchased brand new wheel bearing carrier with new bearings, upper bushings, and sleeves.
3. Purchased brand new lower bushings and new sleeves for the wheel bearing carrier.
After replacing all these parts, most of the play in the rear wheel is gone; however, there is still some play. The only thing left to replace is the rear axle, wheel hub, and wheel studs. Just wondering if folks have had issues with the wheel hub or stubs. Please advise as soon as possible as I would like to fix this problem over the weekend.
I was wondering if any of you could tell me what you have paid or what the dealer charges to change the transmission fluid in the 2012 sportsmans. I’m sure it’s not difficult. And I know I could do it. But I work 70 hours a week and my weekends are the only time that I get to ride it. I’d like to take it to the dealer and get it done. But I don’t want to get it there and have them tell me it’ll be 200 dollars.
ok, i needed to remove the front diff on my 13 500ho. i looked at a bunch of videos on this as i do with just about anything i do, every one of them showed them removing the hubs, tre, lower ball joint, caliper, ect… to get the axles out. why? i have had mine apart several times and all i do is remove the lower arm bolts to the frame (i have struts not upper arms) then remove the axle nut and move the whole assembly forward while sliding the axle out. easy. i don’t get why they go through all this trouble. is there something i’m missing?
Hey guys my 03 400 Sportsman runs great when I don’t hit huge water holes but as soon as I hit a big hole, like to the top of the tires, it bogs down hard and seems like its misfiring or something. It never used to do this but started last year and wanted to fix it this year. The wheeler only has 1900 miles or less if I remember right. Think a new spark plug with dialetic grease on it would help? Ive never changed it and I got it with 400 miles. Any other ideas? Thanks!
Hey guys, I’m needing a little advice before I get in over my head. Any help would be greatly associated. I’m going tomorrow to look at/possibly purchase a 2001 325 Trail Boss. It’s clean and appears to be a very well taken care of quad. The owner says the chain needs to be replaced, and the trans has to be dropped to do that. I went to the local cycle shop, and they said the trans doesn’t need to be dropped, and it’s basically no big deal to replace a chain. I’ve never done it, and I don’t wanna buy this thing thinking that I’m getting a great deal on it, and end up having to sink a lot more money into it before it’s done. The owner says that it will move forward but makes a loud noise, says he had one do it before and the chain was stretched and it was doing the same thing this one is. He says it will run fine in reverse and never make the slightest noise. Supposedly everything else on this quad is perfect and he has a clear title and I can get it pretty cheap. Is it worth messing with? Is it really that simple to replace the chain, and does it sound like that’s what’s wrong with it? I’m sure the answers are somewhere on this forum and I tried the search function but didn’t really come across the same thing. I’d really appreciate some advice on this as well as what to look for, etc, to make sure of what the problem is before I buy it. Thanks in advance.
I had the unfortunate event of putting my brand new sportsman etx up to the racks in water yesterday and let’s just say things didn’t go to well because I didn’t make it out the other side of the deep a$$ puddle. I shut it off as soon as I heard it start to die and I knew I wasn’t making it across. Then I dragged it out and stood it straight up for a solid 30 minutes to drain water out of the muffler. Then after waiting a while I started it back up finally and was being an idiot and decided to drive it for another 2 hours. Probably was a terrible idea and I’m regretting it now but it seemed to work fine for the rest of the day. I don’t know if it is to late to do anything now but if not what should I do?
400 polaris 2 stroke. 1999
I have manual, so don’t post telling me to buy one..
Problem is, changed rectifier because old one had melted hole. I have no neutral light but my revers light works. My awd does not work, fan does not work but my rad pump works. I have no battery, I keep dead battery connected to keep my lines from bouncing around and touching frame etc.
I changed main fuse.
So the other day I jumped my atv with truck and used electric start. Worked fine. Still no other electrical including lights. Were do I begin or do I need battery?? Could have all my lights actually blowen include the awd light? Just not sure wtf is going on. Btw manual is useless in this case.
Any help ! Thx
It’s time to replace the u-joints in my ’03 Sportsman 600’s front prop shaft. So, I soaked the front and rear splines with penetrating oil for a few days, then set about to remove the roll pin from the front yoke…..yeah, that ain’t happenin’! I’ve spent countless hours, and an entire can of penetrant……I’ve bludgeoned several pin-punches until they are un-recognizable, and virtually worn out a hefty ball-pein hammer. I guess my question is, "how much abuse can the front differential take?". I’m loath to use heat for fear of damaging the seal, bearing, etc…..but all that pounding can’t be good either. Drilling out a roll pin is difficult on the bench, using the drill press – I can’t imagine doing it on the bike! My instincts tell me to reach for a bigger hammer and pound away, but surely the front diff can’t survive?
Own a 2 stroke 400 4×4. Been pulling hair out trying to get it running good. All my indications point to carburetor but I think I am missing something. Have rebuilt carb and had running decent but not the best. Daughter went on weekend ride and flooded bike in mud hole. Tore down carb cleaned it and now cannot get it to run good. It runs the best with no air filter and no air box cover. If it just put air box cover on with no filter I get very low rpm’s. I keep making adjustments with no luck. I do keep getting a bluish smoke from exhaust no matter what screw adjustments I make.
