2010 Sportsman 500 Instrument cluster issues
Grind gears when shifting
Ride; 2001 Sportsman 500 HO 1700 miles, 225 hours.
Situation; when cold, or not ridden very far (plowing mosly so far) it shifts from low to reverse fine… once it gets a little warm, it starts grinding going into gear… reverse, hi, low. Idle has not been touched… I bought it used from a second owner that did not ride very much… so no background on the machine from him….
question, why does it grind when its warm? its pretty bad grinding… any thoughts??
thanks in advance… if needed I can get a vid of it this weekend.
Got my battery ordered
Carb jet question
Quick question for you, not sure if I am over thinking this. Picked up a dyno jet kit for my 2010 Sportsman 400. It says optimum main jet is 160 (157.5 stock) I am running oversized tires with stock muffler at 2000′ alt in temps about 5F and warmer.
Question is should I increase the other jets in there as well. Can’t remember the name of it but there is another jet (160 stock) should I bump that up to 165? Kit instructions don’t say anything about it.
I guess since I have you here, any opinions on drilling out the slide?
Thanks in advance

PROBLEM: Polaris 2006 Sportsman 800EFI Cranking problems
Turn key and it cranks up and then shuts right back off. Sometimes it would idle but as soon as I gave it throttle it would shut off.
So after changing the fuel Pump still doing same thing. I then bought a Fuel Pressure Tester & Fuel Injection Pump Tester from Harbor Freight for around $15 and was only getting about 3psi at the fuel injector test port. Because I’m a novice I didn’t check the tank at first so I pulled the fuel pump assembly back out and viewed the tank with a flashlight. It had the old fuel pump sock residue all in it. I took the tank and cleaned it out thoroughly. Put back together and same thing. I then went to Napa and purchased a MPF 3-19679 Fuel Pressure Regulator at $66.99. I replaced it and it was a perfect fit. No modifications needed. Turned the key and it fired right up. It runs like a champ now.
All I needed to do in the first place was completely clean out the tank, replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator(Napa MPF 3-19679) and put a new Strainer(Napa AFP FS111) on the Fuel Pump(Napa APF E8198).
A special thanks to AKStew for the very informative piece that he did on the fuel tank and servicing the Fuel Pump.
I am very happy to have my 800 running and now I will follow this exact procedure on my 2007 Sportsman 700EFI because it is doing the same thing.
Hard cold start
