92 trail boss 250 crank seal?

Hello all, I’m new to form. I have a question regarding the clutch side crank seal for a 92 trail boss 250. The other day my sons trail boss locked up, turns out the rubber inner clutch cover sealing ring came off and wrapped around clutch. I popped clutch off and removed old sealing ring. I’m currently trying to locate a new one as its not available through Polaris. While I was in there, I noticed the crank seal seems to be installed backwards? When looking at the seal, I can see the spring that adds tension to the sealing lip of seal. On all other crank seals I’ve ever done, the side of seal with the spring always went in towards the bearings. Does Polaris want the seal installed backwards, or has someone previously installed seal backwards? I tried downloading a service manual, but had no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you……..

700 Efi rough idle then dies

I’ve got an 05 sportsman 700 with about 1000 miles that I’m having some issues with. I went for a ride the other day close to home since it hasn’t been started in a few years everything seemed fine so I kept going after getting about 15 miles from home I stopped turned it off for a few mins. When I went to start it it barely idled then sputtered backfired and died. It seemed to be starving for fuel. Long story short the only way I go it home was by turning it over then holding it wide open and it would go ok like that but the second I let off full throttle it continued to loose power until it rolled to a stop the spudered and died did this about 15 times and I was home. So I thought fuel pump or filter- no bypassed filter and checked fuel pressure at rail 40 lbs. next I dumped out all the gas put in new gas blew out the lines … Nothing so I changed the plugs and changed air filter… No difference… So I took the throttle body apart cleaned it pulled the injectors out to see if they had melted or something.. Looked fine… I checked voltage on the tps I have .48 yellow wire and it goes up as i press the the throttle. If I adjust the throttle cable it runs worse. I took apart the air flow sensor cleaned it. Nothing made a difference if I unplug the air flow sensor it seems to run the same. Except I get a code. Other then that I don’t get any codes and nothing I do seems to help. If it was the Bap sensor or the tps sensor that was bad wouldnt I get a code for it?? I’m leaning towards buying a new mass airflow sensor or whatever polaris calls it. Any help would be great.. Thanks in advance.

2008 Sportsman 90 banging sound from clutch

If someone could use the following links for a couple short you-tube videos of my 2008 90cc Sportsman and maybe help me diagnose the banging sound coming from the clutch area I would really appreciate it. I don’t know if maybe it is just a bad belt or if something more serious might be going on. I don’t think it is the belt because the sound stays even when I put tension on the belt with a screwdriver shaft while it’s turning. Sometimes it just disappears and it is worse at lower rpm’s. I think the first link is better. Thank you in advance.

Main Drive chain?

I have the main drive chain off for cleaning and lubricating. I noticed a small amount of wear on the bottom of the side links of the chain, otherwise looks good. Any reason why I should not just flip it over to the other side when installing?
thanks

Just bought a used 2007 Sportsman 500 cc (Browning Edition)

Hey all, as the title says I just picked up a used machine… I’m so excited!

I bought it from a dealer who just got it in on a trade. Before I bought it, I took it for a few laps around the dealership and it seemed to run pretty good. It had good acceleration, wasn’t clunking and the breaks worked decent. The only thing I didn’t like was that there was a rattling noise. It wasn’t there at idle, or when I got up to speed, but while accelerating it was there. I stopped the bike and the owner of the dealership and I started shaking parts of the bike and it seemed like the shifter was knocking against the exhaust heat guard and making the noise. I jammed a piece of cardboard between the shifter and the exhaust and when I tested it again the noise was probably 75% gone so I’m hoping that’s all that the noise was.

I pick the bike up on Saturday. What should I do when I get it? Oil change obviously, check the air filter… what else? I want to get it all cleaned up before I start hitting the trails with it. I want to find out if there’s anything wrong with it. I’m hoping to keep this bike for a long time and slowly build it into a mud machine.

Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
