Stupid question, but want to prove a point. Setting cam timing on a 500 sportsman with cam dots on top both valves closed and crank gear set on mark and piston at top dead center guys telling me it’s 180 dergrees out!! Meaning one shiny link in chain is lined up with crank gear mark at bottom and 2 shiny links on chain at lined up on cam gear with dots on top.
I have an 04 sportsman 600 twin. This season it started to quit when it warmed up. It was dumping fuel into the air box. I did a carb rebuild and found the needle and seat were shot. Runs like new again….until it gets hot and it still quits except no more fuel leaking. This happens after about 15 minutes, idling or driving. The fan kicks on and when it goes off the bike quits and won’t start again til it cools completely. When it quits the coil is still providing good blue spark at the plugs. The plugs are a little carbon fouled too. Anyone have any suggestions at all? The dealer told me today the valves may be too tight but I don’t believe that would cause my symptoms that just started after plowing with it all winter. After winter I changed all fluids except antifreeze. I do have an aftermarket fan that was much cheaper than the $300 one from the dealer. I’m at a loss on this and it’s killing me with riding season upon us.
Just picked up a 94 400l 4×4 last night, already have a 95 sportsman so figured it would be pretty similar.
Has one issue I cant figure out. It will go into 4 wheel drive just fine. Problem is if i back up then go forward while its in 4 wheel drive its like the right front wheel is binding up, pulls really hard to right and will pop and bang from driveline until I turn off 4 wheel drive stop and backup up then go forward again.
Checked fluid in front hubs, both seem to engage and diesengage just fine. Totally stumped….
Just bought this 350i 4×4. Everything is in great shape with it, typical 22 year old ATV.
One problem is the oil injection, guy said it doesn’t work and has been mixing the gas for it.
What I want to know is if he is using the right mix, 50:1.
The 96 I purchases is pulling hard to the right. Is there a such thing as being out of alignment?
I jacked up the quad and noticed when I engage the 4×4 the right wheel won’t spin but the Axel does. I added oil but nothing changed. Could this have something to do with it?
I am wondering if i can get some advice on upgrading my stock tie rod ends. I see they have these available and i would assume they have less moving parts than OEM ones where the bolts go through. They say they will fit my 2000 SP 500. Would these work and thread onto my stock rods? I seem to have play with the bolts.
hey guys i got my old polaris 500 down for repairs , the stator went so the charging system wasn’t working (got water in pull cord) , i replaced the stator and regulator , the bike will idle now but pop and fart , even had a massive backfire at one point .soon as you rev the bike its highly under powered and pop and farting .. .. the original stator is no longer usable it fell apart etc , can anyone think of why after putting in a new stator it would do this? the bike ran fine before hand (had to charge battery etc) ..
ive done some air/fuel mixtures turns in the passed could this be a problem? .. im not sure i am stumped any help would be appreciated .. btw i do not have a light connected to the regulator at this moment maybe that is why?
Can you buy just the cage and bearings for a cv joint I broke my cage on the 700 twin rear inner and would like to just do the cage for a fix, but I can’t find a source for the part. I would think it would be cheaper than replacing the whole joint.
I have a 1991 Trail Boss 350. Does anyone have pictures of the idle mixture screws?
I cannot start it unless I am pressing the throttle.
It will not stay running when cold.
It will stall after a few minutes when warm.
When shifting gears, if I do not keep some throttle on it, it will stall.
I know there is an adjustment on the throttle at the handle bars. I am looking for the adjustments on the actual carb.
