Bought the 2013 Sportsman 800 new in May in 2013. Ran great. had to clean the tps once and didnt have any issues for a while. Used it that winter at the farm and never had an issue. Used it in the summer and it acted up once where it would stutter when trying to get on it and checked the codes and got code 21. Next time I went to use it no issues at all. Left it sit in the shed all winter, didn’t have time to use it. Pulled it out this spring and was using it around the farm again and no issues. At this point it had just under 30 hours and 106 miles.
Today now, well lets just say it was starting it really irk me. Loaded it up on the trailer and hauled it up north to hit the Dusty Trails for a few hours. If anyone knows the area, we parked in Gillett and took the trails up the Breed. No code or issues until we get up to Breed to top up with gas, Code 21 popped up and had some hesitation issues. About a ten mile trip. Sat at the gas station for a bit and decided if it was gona act up just say screw it and go home. Started it up, no check engine light, headed back south, took about 20 mins to get 6 miles down trail, steady run at about 25mph, ran great so said ok, maybe just a freak code pop again, turned around and went out, ran great for about half hour after that then the code popped back up again and would sputter pretty hard if I tried to get on it to hard, would be fine if I rolled up to speed easy, unless from a dead stop then I could rail on it and would be just fine until about 28mph then would sputter like mad if I was giving her to hard. Figured out well since the trail speed is only 25, can deal with it.
Ran about 105 miles with the code coming and going, mainly would go away if we stopped and shut the machine down for a few mins. Stopped at the pipeline to play in the mud a little and was ok getting on it alittle in the shallow mud. Hit a water hole and it started missing pretty bad, ok well I knew I got something wet, was bound to happen, took it easy for a while and got it dried out and that sputtering went away but code 21 still. Well once you hit the trail south of Breed you can just cruise. Well rolled it up to about 35 and would sputter hard again unless I railed on it then would be fine up to about 55 then I would had to play with the throttle a hair to keep it from sputtering. Well about half way between Gillett and Breed, code still on but ran like a top, dead stop to 70, no issues or anywhere in between.
Now that yall know the history, what could be causing the issues with code 21 and the heavy hesitation/missing?
BTW the machine now sits at about 40 hours and 220 miles.
does anyone know of a company that acually makes heavy duty wheel bearings and and heavy duty a arm bushings that will last longer then the polaris junk they put on at the factory
423 miles bushings are worn out and bearing are loose as hell
Hey guys, i went to start my atv and no power, no instrument panel power and no lights. My battery was dead so I bought a new one installed it but still now power anywhere. Thanks for the help. Neil
Can anyone tell me if there is a fuse for the headlights of a Hawkeye I hook jump box to it and turn it on 200 amp start by mistake and headlights got brighter and then went out
Not a bad thing, I got a free 2008 Sportsman 300 4X4. It was abandoned in a barn after being trashed. It looked bad but cleaned up pretty well.
I cleaned the carb and it fired right up, but that’s where it ends. It goes nowhere. The drive belt cover was off and found later. There is a slight drag on the belt but there is no engagment to speak of. I bought an online manual but they leave a lot out. I have owned quite a few 2 stroke quads setup for the sand dunes, and over 20 various street and dirt bikes (yes, I’m old), but this is my first look at a 4 stroke ATV 4X4, and something with a CVS system. Two things, one – I think it might be clutch related, and two – i think there are parts missing. I have enclosed a photo of what was visable on the left side. Can anyone tell me if there should be additional parts by the front of the drive belt? Also, is there a trick for breaking that nut loose on the front pulley? I have researched this assembly online but everyone shows it by component instead of showing how everything goes together, even the manual fails to show an A-B drawing.
Any help would be appreciated, I’m stuck here and don’t want to start by breaking things.
Hi All,
New to site. Thanks in advance. I cleaned the carb on a friends 95 polaris magnum 425 and I am having an issue.
I did a good clean-out on the carb, keeping close check on parts and location of said parts. Hooked it all back up and it starts just fine. The problem is that it starts wide-open and stays that way, even with the throttle disconnected.
I have taken the darn thing apart and put it back together 3 times, checking the parts diagram while doing it. I just can’t figure out where I went wrong and could use some help or suggestions on the subject.
Again, thanks in advanced.
Hello, I am new to the forum, I joined as I always found my self going to this forum for answers but I have a problem I cannot find a solution to yet.
I have a 1992 Polaris trail boss 350l and the wire that goes into the strut has broken right were it enters the strut. I would like to know if anyone has replaced the whole wire set from the inside out as I cannot splice into it since it broke off flush to the hole. and if I can change it, do I go in through the top of the spindle or take off the hub and go at it that way, any help would be appreciated since this 3 wheel drive is driving me nuts with the pulling to one side, thank you
Hi guys and gals,
Brought my ATV into my Polaris dealer with a broken CV boot the other day, went in today and was told my drive shaft is finished. Not very savvy as I’m a new ATV owner. They quoted me $438 and that seems like a lot.
Would I best have them do it for $440, do it myself, or what ?
Ok I have bought a new battery and ignition coil and spark plug. Everything the Clymer manual says to "ohm" I have. I have not been able to remove the flywheel and check all that but the bike turns over and everything seems normal just NO SPARK. put new OEM coil/wire combo and plug, CDI BOX seems to be throwing voltage to the IGNITION COIL. Any tips/tricks or suggestions? almost ready to start selling it for parts Lol any help is greatly appreciated
