When do the valve or rings need to be replaced?

I have an 08 525S that I built 3yrs ago, new HC piston, rings, valve job, 807cam… Recently It has been kinda hard to start when warm so I adjusted the valves. Were only out by .002”. Seemed to help but still wont bust off when warm. (run 93oct) Im cleaning the carb as we speak. It does not smoke at all. I’ve ran fuel fragrance a few times and wondered if this has caused any problems. Runs great when running but noticed losing power (got outrun by stock yzf450). Im ready to build top end if needed. Don’t know where to start. Thank you

Carburetor running rich on Polaris 500

I have a 99 Polaris Sportsman 500 with a 40 millimeter carburetor on it and is running rich. as soon as I put it in park and give it gas it spits and sputters and bogs down . there is no backfiring whatsoever out of the exhaust or out the carburetor. But as I take off the air filter and air box it somewhat straightens out. I rebuilt the carburetor last year. I took the spark plug off and it is black as the ace of spades, leading me to believe that is running rich. I took apart the carburetor last night and everything still seems to be pretty clean. This one has got me stumped
Any advice would be helpful
thanks

850 sportsman limp mode not overheating

I’ve seen all sorts of answers on here but does not exactly sound like my problem. My sportsman has less than 100 miles. It’s been doing this off and on since about new. Just got unbearable Sunday. Every once and awhile not ever trip the hot light would come on and I’d go into limp mode. Does not appear to be hot at all. I usually pull the fan fuse/breaker in the box and stick it back in and remove the battery wire no more than 10 minutes. Then everything goes back to normal and ride the rest of the day with no issues sometimes several trips. Sunday it did it within the first 2 miles reset as usual good for another couple of hours. Then it started every 10 to 15 minutes till had to give up. I tried to limp back to the truck and it stopped completely. I pulled the battery cable once more and it lasted another 10 minutes then I was able to limp back to the truck. radiators not clogged, waters full and fan seems to be coming on and off.

2010 550 sportsman wont rev over 3500

I bought a 2010 sportsman 550 today. The guy said that sometimes it wouldnt rev very high. There is a check engine code up of 22. I used a multimeter to adjust the tps to .71 volts but that didnt help. What its doing is it will idel fine but when i go to give it gas the rpms will max out at 3500 likes its hitting a rev limiter. Any help will be approciated.

Water in oil tank.

Just did my first engine oil change on my ’12 500 HO. When I removed drain plug from oil tank, I got about a 1/2 cup of water before oil started flowing out. The oil level was a bit high before I started change, but not that bad. Engine ran fine before, with no unusual sounds or exhaust smoke. After re-reading manual, I found section on oil change that mentions possible water in oil tank from cold weather use. I use mine a lot during the winter hunting season, so I am guessing that is why the water was in the tank. I have 55 hours and 160 miles on the bike. I am the 2nd owner, so I am assuming the oil has been changed at least once before I got it.

Was this a quirk, or should I expect to get water in the oil tank every winter?

Stalling, chugging, power drain etc

Hey guys, newb to the forum so apologies if I didn’t find this problem discussed.

Alright, I think I partly screwed up/partly had something going on my 2011 500HO (carbed).

-just hit 1000 kms, 94 hours. Battery is maybe 2 years old.

-check engine light has been on since last year but ran fine other than the Tach spins up to 1200 and drops at start. It also shows very low rpms while riding.

-went for a good 2 hour ride the other day and at one point my Tach read properly (it even hit 6000 rpm for the first time since this started) then went back to low rpms shown. Also I noticed a slight slapping sound like it could be a frayed belt but the belt has maybe 200kms on it, looks fine.

-brought it home and washed it off with the garden hose…. I cleaned around the fuse box with parts cleaner (I didn’t have anything else) thinking it would be fine.

-next day I had to boost it to get started but if I gave it gas it would chug and knock then stall. Undriveable now.

-rechecked the fuses and they were shattered (most likely from the parts cleaner eating it) so changed them. Hopefully nothing else got dissolved by the cleaner.

-checked and cleaned spark plug, airbox filter

-put my multimeter on the battery while running and I get around 9.5-10v (14v with battery charger trickling it)

-with the machine OFF and the key ON my multimeter shows a slow drop in volts over a minute or two.

That’s what I know for sure so far so I am hoping anyone might have an idea what could be the problem, whether it’s a regulator, stator, or I fried my electrical with parts cleaner? I’d like to fix this myself instead of the dealer. :damnit:

Sportsman 500 Engine Hot

I have a 2008 Sportsman 500 HO. I didn’t have power and finally traced it to the ECM. I cleaned it and connected it powered up and starts which is great. Now it starts blinking and says HOT check engine after I turn it off. I ran it and it never said HOT until I turned it off. I went out this morning and started it for 2 seconds and turned it off and it said the same thing. There is now way it can get hot that quick. Let me know what yall think. Thanks, Neil
