Wading / fording

Not sure what you guys call it if not wading so sorry if I got the wrong terminology….. The manual says it’s safe up to the foot boards, I’m guessing there is a fair safety margin there, how deep can I go without snorkels (sportsman 850)

Thanks,

What model do I own?

I got a 2014 rancher 420 at irs eps last week. Only has 4 miles on it. I’ve noticed that there are two styles of plastics for 2014 ranchers. I have the 07-13 plastics on mine, I ran the vin to make sure that the quad was a 2014 . Anybody know why I have these plastics on my rancher? Are there any differences in mine and the newer model’s?

Going to the dark side

Well this is what happens when you do not offer a sporty version of a atv. My wife has a 2008 wolverine 450…but she just rode our youngest son’s 2014 sportsman 400 over some rough terrain and she was shocked by the ride difference. But her one condition is she wants no racks. So basically Polaris is out:crying: I found a Canned Ham renegade 570 and now she wants one…a divorce might be coming. ..lol

Question – Rough Idle on Polaris 800 ONLY WHEN COLD

My 2006 Polaris 800 sportsman has about 1900 miles on it.

It just recently started running with rough idle at start up until the machine gets up to operating temp then it runs smooth.

It will start up and run for about 1 minute and then stall. I fire back up and bring the RPMs up and let off the gas and it will idle for a bit and then stall.

After about 5 minutes the machine roughs perfect.

My theory. I have some seepage around the exhaust manifold gasket area. I am thinking the fuel map is hunting around at cold start due to the exhaust gasket seepage, The computers is trying to find the right fuel spray but it can’t because of the exhaust out. It can not find the right fuel ratio map?

Running rich? Until the machine gets up to temp, then all good!?

NOTE: this problem got much worse when temps dropped below 50 degrees

Your thoughts?

Date from frame number?

I am fixing up a D bat 6×6 and would like to know what year it was made.
The frame # is 2275903 the engine is a Yanmar L100AE 406cc.
On the plastic belt drive cover is a date stamp for the cover and it shows Dec 94 but it could of had a new cover sometime.
Can anyone tell me a date from the frame #
Thanks, Kev

Question on rear rack mounted trunks

I wanted to see how you guys have been mounting these trunks to the plastic Polaris racks? Seems like they all use U-bolts for mounting to the steel tubular racks on most other brands.

I’m looking at the Quad Boss weekender in particular & like most of the others, it comes with a seat. Now I don’t plan on carrying a passenger, but for trail breakdowns & whatever other situation you may run into, it would be nice if this trunk was mounted securely enough to safely put a passenger in.

I know they say it’s not meant for passengers, but come on? They say it’s for resting on the trail, but if that’s the case, what’s up with the moulded arm rests, hand holds & what looks to be a super comfy ass fitted seat cushion….you might fall off your machine while taking a break? These things are def meant for a passenger, they just don’t want to be liable for the idiots that sure to get hurt while riding 2up on a std. machine.

If I had the tubular steel racks, it wouldn’t be an issue, but what are you guys doing that are running these trunks?

Help!! How do I take off my tired?

Guys / Gals;

I have a very dumb question. I’ve tried see hung the forum already but haven’t found the answer to my question yet so I’m reaching out for help. I just purchased a new set of wheels / tired for my ride. I took out a floor Jack and a car jack and can’t seem to life my front end high enough to have the wheels in the air. Am I suppose to lift the front end in a certain area to achieve enough clearance to take off the wheels? Thank you very much for any help or tips.
