High lifter 850 not for trail riding?

I have seen where some people say the 850 high lifter isn’t for trail riding. Please tell me why. I plan to buy one because I want the protection from water for the times I do get into mud and water.
I don’t seem to get what is wrong with using it for the trails between the water holes and mud pits
I have never had an atv with ps so I don’t think I will miss that part at all.
Just thinking it is a factory lifted, snorkeled wheeler, with great tires, and with the radiator relocated, seems like a slam dunk
What am I missing?

2014 x2 550 acceleration

Hi,

I’m new to the forum, and I just purchased a 2014 x2 550 EPS. Overall I love the machine so far, but I have one question: In comparison to a 2011 touring 500 H.O. i’ve driven, the X2 has much less acceleration when you hit the throttle. It’s a very smooth feel, not as jumpy (which I like), but it feels a little sluggish. Is this normal? For a top speed, I can get it up to 60, but once it hit’s 50 it really takes a while to get there. It works fine for what I need it for, but I want to make sure it’s running properly.

Polaris Lock’n ride cargo rack

It’s not really a rack…it’s a luggage box. I know it will fit my machine (’cause the website tells me so! :yahoocool: ) but I want to know the dimensions…especially how tall it is. Can’t find the dimensions anywhere.

As a follow up, if you have one, how do you like it? Hinges and lid OK? Do you have the side bags?

I have a 2015 570SP. Box is: SPORTSMAN LOCK & RIDE REAR CARGO RACK – BLACK BY POLARIS Item #2875176

Thanks again…I’ll try to leave you guys alone for a while. Hate to be a pest.

2up verse single seat your thoughts

What I am gonna ask maybe limited to a small group but figured this would be the only place it may get answered and help me decide what to buy.

background – I have owned in order a scrambler 400, then moved to 500×2, then 50" 800 rzr.

I find myself missing riding a quad and thinking about selling the rzr and returning to something with handlebars. I am torn between buying a single seat 850/1000 sportsman or the 2-up 850/1000 sportsman touring. My friend during the period I have owned my rzr had a 850 sportsman and now moved up to the 1000 single seater (by the way this quad is sick with power), I have had the opportunity to ride it and makes me miss having one. My dilemma is should I go with the 2-up because there are times I will have a passenger or I won’t I have the same ride as the single seater. I liked my old 500×2 for the added length at times but other times not so much. Everywhere I ride is private so I don’t have to follow any rules about two passengers on single seat atvs so this has no factor in my decision.

Does anyone have any personal experience with riding both pluses/negatives?

OEM Crappy battery

Hey Guys,

I just bought a (new) 2015 Sportsman 570 SP. Upon going through the manual, I have a couple questions (as an anal redundant person such as myself would).

A). Polaris says that for extreme use/conditions, I might want to upgrade my battery. Seems like they know that it is substandard, but anyways, I plan to use this for plowing snow just a tad this winter (seriously….just a tad. My driveway is pretty short). The machine will be garaged, and should not really be exposed to EXTREME cold, although (obviously) I will be installing my 3500lb winch to operate the plow. I was kinda thinking that the original battery…even if it is crap, should get me by….at least for the first year. I wanted to get some of your opinions as you guys REALLY seem to know alot about these machines. I’ll change it if I have to, but my financial advisor (and co-habitation specialist) is already starting to give me the raised eyebrow about the spending. (I think it may have been the entire F-150 Pickup bed full of stuff that HAD to go with the new machine :naughty: )

B) In the book under troubleshooting, I noticed that it talked about too high/too low octane, but I couldn’t find where they actually TOLD me what octane this thing likes. Anybody know? My choices are limited to what they have at the pump, but if I know what to aim for, at least I can keep that in mind…or adjust with additive if it is too low.

As usual, thanks in advance!

2008 rancher 420 fueling issues

I just traded my Polaris for a Honda but the rancher seems to have fueling issues, at least I believe. The four wheeler turns on and cranks up but after running for a while it starts to sputter a little. If I put it in gear and go it’ll go for about 100ft and die. The guy said it may need a new ECU. He also said he just replaced the fuel pump. Is the ECU really the problem? I’m really not sure what it could be but I’m thinking it’s got something to do with the fuel injection or something fuel related. I’m really hoping it’s a cheap and easy fix because I got a good deal and he seemed to be a straight forward honest guy. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!!
