Practical Jokes on the Trails

I got to share this with you’ll as it was funny , last Sunday we took a ride and I was leading as there are a bunch of followers who ride with us who never want to go first , there are 1/2 a dozen really bad holes that will suck up a bike and you are not getting thru on your own , even though I think I have CRS (Can’t Remember things when it comes to fishing. I have a photographic mind of where the holes are and I do cheat as I secretly have the holes marked with reflectors on trees and bushings before the hole and to the opposite side the trail , so I was looking to kick up the fun , one of my buddies is obsessed with deer and hog tracks , he is a pain in the butt about stopping every time he sees a track and checking it out which breaks up the train , my friend shot a big buck and I got him to gave me a foot , and I duct taped it to a broom stick , that morning I took a ride by myself to survey the trails , and marked it up really good , that big buck was every where and I was scraping the bushes with a machete to look like scrapes , so when he seen the tracks and stopped I would go ahead and find the big holes , go onto the other side of the hole and back up right to the edge and park , so here they finally come blazing down the trail going to follow right in my tracks , splash , you would think he would have caught on after a few times , so finally the grand finale , the deepest hole back there he flips off the side the bike and lands in the water , over the top his waders and all that was sticking out was his head , no body was quick enough to get a pic , I just about pee’ed on myself when he got out and says ‘I need a cigarette after that ", he pulls the pack out and pours water out of it ——- moral of the story " Don’t be a follower , be the story and not the story teller" ———— give me some good ideas for this weekend !!!! ———— I am working on a really good one , my friend has a Big Foot suit , thinking of stuffing it with rags and paper , and hanging it from a tree on a rope where it would swing out over the trail and I could hit my wife with it , thinking of getting someone to hold her up so everyone can get ahead and set up , I am just a little afraid she would gas it , run BigFoot over and run up in the trees

Ice Screws

Just wanted to share my experience with these
Attachment 29193
Been using the 1/2" version on my Ranger for a couple seasons now. Kold Kutter is the brand, they have a deep slot with angled teeth on the heads and because of this are "self cleaning"
Used mainly for plowing and ice fishing, with a little play time in there. They work amazing on ice but the biggest surprise is I havent had one rip out on me yet.

Put a set on the Big Bear this last weekend and immediately noticed the difference in traction. Played pretty hard with lots of tire spinning and they are all still in there.

Just wanted to share this for those looking to get some extra grip this winter. PS ive tried using the sheet metal screws before and dont recommend that!

EDIT: I think a bag of 1,000 was like $40 or so

Trail riding equipment suggestions

I’m new at trail riding and have used my Rancher 420 for just deer hunting, chores, and working at the archery club. I plan to do some trail riding in the spring at Michaux State Forest in PA. What helmet would you recommend? Also what equipment, supplies should I take for a day of riding?

Question about DCT

Do most people ride technical trails in auto or ES mode? I prefer using auto but don’t want to harm the transmission. Just using it on trails that have a mix of flat riding, rocks, hills and stream crossings. Nothing crazy though.

Hunting from your ATV/ATV pop-up blind?

I’ve been searching the internet for over an hour now, and I am shocked that nobody out there sells an ATV pop-up blind with windows that can be put up and taken down in a matter of minutes. So my question is, how do you guys hunt from your ATV’s and what do you use to ensure you are camouflaged? I cannot believe there isn’t a company out there that makes a blind that is basically a square with 4 windows that you put up around your machine.

Massimo 500 UTV aka Hisun Motors, China

Has anyone ever owned or worked on one of these 2014 Massimo 500 EFI UTV’s? Massimo is an American owned company in Texas which assembles the Hisun UTV in Texas, and then sells them to Tractor Supply as a supposedly made in the USA machine. I have one of these Massimo’s in my shop rite now that came in with signs of a blown head gasket. Compression tested at around 100 PSI, And the worst service manual in the world that I found for it says the compression should test at around 185 PSI. So I change the head gasket, and while doing so I inspected the head and the cylinder the best I could without magna fluxing anything. I did a fluid style leak down test for the valves, and then the guides while I had the head off. There were no leaks in either valve or either guide & seal.(2 valve engine). Well I just got this thing back together and it runs rough as crap. It’s not blowing coolant out of the system like it was when it came in. I’m going to double check the timing, but I have nothing to reference it to because that suck ass service manual I downloaded is not very explanatory, and it’s a bit brief, and the pictures suck. I actually downloaded 2 manuals one of them is for the Hisun 500 ATV its the same engine only it’s carbureted, and the UTV is EFI. So does anyone know any history on this machine as far as common problems such as hair line cracking between the cylinder and water jackets? Or do they just run a bit rough as there nature. It starts rite up with ease so I’m kinda ruling out the timing being off, but heck I don’t know at this point. I know I have about 8 or 9 hours in this thing and it still runs crappy. FRUSTRATED!!! Also new NGK plug with bright blue spark, and the fuel pump will shoot a 25′ stream across the shop. I drove it around for 30 minutes or so, and did not loose any coolant, and the fan is cycling on at around 130 – 140 deg. Any suggestions guys.

Back in the Saddle Again

Picked up this little gem saturday morning:

Wasn’t really looking just happen to come across it and it was cheap. Really nice shape too, and seeing how tough our other Yamaha the same vintage was/is (86′ moto4) figured what the hell. I have a soft spot for these older yamaha atv’s…idk why:biglaugh:

Went and played around in the snow on saturday afternoon with it and she didnt skip a beat. Brother in law rolled his grizzly and broke a bunch of stuff up front so it actually got to tow an atv back to the shop on its maiden voyage. We had just got done putting in a new rear driveshaft in the grizz the night before…he didnt even have 20 minutes of seat time on it when that happened.

Kinda funny we had an 86 honda fourtrax, an 92 yamaha timberwolf, and this 89′ big bear out messing around…the 86′ moto4 will be out next too since BOL’s grizzly is down. Rockin the Retro LOL.
