Iron Baltic HDPE Skid Plates

I decided to go ahead and order myself a set. I just couldn’t take it any more, riding around with my belly exposed.
After exchanging a few emails with Nils Laur, I placed my order Thursday afternoon, around 2:00 PM. Yesterday (Monday), at 11:03, they were delivered to my front porch. Amazing, and shipping is covered in the price of the skid plates.

They come right out of Iron Baltics warehouse, which is in Estonia. For those of you who don’t know where that is, it is south of Finland, and east of Sweden, with the Baltic Sea separating them. For my package to be delivered in just 3-1/2 days from there is just unreal. I can’t get a letter delivered from my house to a neighboring state in 3-1/2 days! Kudos to Iron Baltic and DHL.

It took me about 10-15 minutes to get them unwrapped and everything separated. Probably could make another skid plate from all the packaging. lol Everything appears to be there. A ton of various sizes of bolts and screws and washers. It would be nice if they could separate them, and label them in individual packages, but I think I have all of the needed hardware. A number sticker on the various brackets and plates would simplify things as well.
The instruction sheets take some studying, and still aren’t real clear on a couple of the brackets, but I think I have them figured out. Kind of threw me for a bit of a loop for a while as they had the front bracket for the pre 2015 570’s included in the hardware package, and that is the bracket shown on the instruction sheet. Took me a bit to figure that one out. Hopefully tonight I can finish up the job of getting them all installed.

Still have mixed thoughts about this whole HDPE thing, but I hope when I get them all installed I will have a better feeling about them. Right now, I just don’t know…
Will update and include some pictures when I get it done.

Plow and winch suggestions

Ok, first post here, just got my new sportsman 570 a week ago.
I almost had them add a plow and winch kit to the deal, but I think I can save myself some cash with some research.
I’m a fabricator by trade, but don’t have time to custom build something.
I will, however, settle for a lower quality plow knowing that I can make it better.

I’m not willing to skimp much on the winch.

Confused about First oil change

Bought a sportsman 570 a few weeks ago. Have to say its a lot of fun to run around the farm on. The salesman stated that the oil should be changed after the first 10 hours. Looked it up in the owners manual and it states 20 hours. What is your opinion on when to make the first oil change? Wow was alos shocked at the price of oil and a filter $50 + for two quarts of oil and a filter You got to be kidding.

Sportsman 1000 XP In Shop for 1+ Month

So, my 2015 Sportsman 1000 XP has been in the shop for a total of a month now through no fault of the dealer, but rather Polaris parts shortages. The first time, the dealer was able to fix the exhaust with some new springs, and they were waiting on replacement plastics (they melted because of the exhaust spring failure). It was in and out of the shop within about 3 days, but they had only fixed the exhaust springs which was ok with me, because I could ride the machine until the remainder of the parts came in. Ok, Great, so memorial day weekend we went out riding, SAME thing happens – red hot exhaust = exhaust spring failure. Took it back to the dealer and they reorder more parts. This time, exhaust springs are out of stock. I went to the Polaris website to their parts section, and you cant even buy the parts needed to fix this right now even if it was out of warranty.

I bought the machine in February, have about 25 or 30 hrs on it, and just under 600 miles of use. It’s just sitting in the shop during prime riding season!

I contacted Polaris and they said to try working with the dealer – but that doesn’t help because the dealer can’t get the Polaris supplied parts (including the replacement plastics ordered a month ago).

I contacted the dealer this morning and they were going to dig into the parts troubles further and get back to me.

Anybody been through this before? What can I even do? Just sit back while my $12k machine gathers dust in a shop that cant get parts?

At this point, I am seriously considering getting an Attorney and trying for a claim under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act to try and get this thing reimbursed or replaced with another quad that doesn’t have these troubles.

The other thing that really sucks, is that I am pretty sure that when they finally DO get the parts they need, the same thing WILL happen, because the root cause of the issue (extreme exhaust temps) will break the springs again.

Has anybody been down this road before? Any suggestions? I feel like waiting patiently for a month is giving Polaris the benefit of the doubt, but now I’m just getting frustrated.

Oh yeah – and if I wanted to trade this thing in now I’d take quite the hit because of all the incentives being thrown at the 2015’s to get them out the door before the 2016’s hit the sales floors. I was going to trade it in on a RZR or Scrambler to get rid of the headache, but that’s not even an option (8K on trade just isnt quite enough for only 600 miles of riding).

Both of my 2012 Polaris 500’s drain gas any idea’s

So I have 2 2012 Polaris 500’s that just suddenly decided to start draining gas out of the bottom of the bowl. At first I thought that the screw came loose and checked that its tight. I loosened and reseated it that didn’t work. I crimped the 1/8th hose for a temporary fix bad idea the gas went into the air box then. The book don’t give me a lot on the carb just a break down of parts which are similar. My best guess so far is they both got gummed up or bad o ring seats and the gas won’t shut off and its coming out the overflow. The book says fuel issues could be a faulty Ecm but I can’t see that on both quads. Any other ideas out there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

1985 ATC70 Ignition ???

Working on a 85′ ATC70 rebuilding the ignition system: Stator, points and condenser. Owner claims the ign.coil is new. The question I have, is anything supposed to connect to the terminal connector that comes from the stator? There are 2 wires that come out from the stator assembly: blk and drk grn. I know the black goes to the coil and kill switch, and the dark green goes to the connector then there is a lg/r wire that comes from the neutral safety switch, and goes to the same connector as the drk grn. But it is just a open connector with a rubber cap over the end. Is there supposed to be a jumper block plugged into that connector??? I’m thinking the drk grn wire is a charge wire if there were a headlight and battery. but that still leaves the lg/r wire a mystery to the saftey switch. I’m thinking Jake from down under may be the one to chime in on this. any help with my rusty memory would be appreciated.
