Exhaust valve problem

Hi I have a 2005 LT 400 Susuki Eiger 4wd I`m having an issue with my exhaust valves I bought the machine new and have had no problems it starts and idles fine but back fires thru the exhaust when accelerated to half throttle I removed the valve covers and I can hear the exhaust valves pop back up after the tappet has come off the valve stemthe valve comes almost all the way except that last fraction of an inch I can feel it with my finger when it does this while turning it over slowly with the pull cord this all started after my son borrowed it for a day I feel he over run it too high of rpm for too long and got it too hot am I looking at new exhaust valves ? this thing only has 2500 miles on it I would appreciate any suggestions thanks

From trails to drags, are the new 4×4 atvs making sport quads extinct?

There was a thread about this on a forum dedicated to sport quads last week, and there was some interesting discussion. Pretty much everyone except Yamaha and Honda have dropped their sport quads from the lineup. The only Honda left is a 450 that hasn’t been changed since 2006. Yamaha has its King Raptor 700, and the wide YFZ 450r for the track. I have rode sport quads since 1994, and only till recently got into the 4×4 quads, especially the big bores. It seems these new breed of 4×4 atvs really walk the line of sport and utility. I can ride my Brute Force very hard and aggresive on the trails and then come home and plow snow or haul a trailer. The EPS is a godsend, the built in storage is fantastic when on the trail, and when you come up to a place whe guys are lining them up and having fun, you can stay side by side, or even beat some of the high performance sport quads in the drags. Having 4×4 for trail obstacles, encountering mud, and snow riding takes the cake. Many times I have been stuck with my sport quads in not that much snow, where on my Brute you just blast through like nothing.

It’s kind of sad, but the sport quad seems to be going extinct except for tracks and in the dunes. I guess it’s just the natural evolution of the sport and the industry, but we are seeing the benefits as these new machines continue to push the power, ride, and versatility envelope, I guess we win as consumers.

Life Expendency Sportsman 500

I purchased my Sportsman 500 HO new in late 2007. It has less than 200 hrs and 300 miles on it and has mostly stayed in my garage. I experienced some jerking and investigated. It turns out that the A Arm bushing on both front sides are "shot" and the back ones don’t look too good either. I have already replaced one side’s and will visit local Polaris shop for additioinal parts today. I am concerned that the life expectency of these parts seem very short. Is there any retro-part that will last longer than OEM? Or, are these bushings consumables and I must just plan on replacing every 200 hrs or so?
