new 850 motor oil plug out of alignment

the wifes 850 had to have a shortblock put in it. had It done at the local Polaris dealer.
now after the break in and I find out it only has a 30 day warranty on a new shortblock I was going to do the oil change myself.

the drain plug is so far off set I cannot get a tool in there let alone drop the plug out.
took it back to the dealer they claim all is good no mount issues etc..
they took a die grinder and ground the hole bigger as a fix.

they claim this is a issue on some Polaris motors????

I think im getting bent over,

opinions or anyone heard of this

2011 Recon Snorkel

Sorry for the dirty bike lol. I want to see what you all think of my snorkel. So, here’s my build.

Schedule 40 1-1/2 pipe all the way up. Attachment 24638

First, I came out of the stock intake hole with a small stretch of pipe. Then, put two 45 degree couplings to get around the engine.
Attachment 24639

I put a length of pipe coming out of the 45
Attachment 24642

That goes into a hole I cut into the fender into a 90 degree coupling
Attachment 24643

Then, it goes up, to another 90. Goes over to the third 90 and goes straight up to the stack which has a 90 on top.
Attachment 24644

I ran vent lines from the rear diff, rear brakes, gas tank vent line, and carb vent. Ran the hoses up to the top of the stack, and wire tied them to the stack.

I put silicone on the air box lid and around the stock intake boot.

It runs pretty well, but I am going to rejet the carb to get some of the low end power back that I lost.

You should di-electric grease all of the electric connections and the spark plug boot.

Good luck with your builds

Multi-Use Trailer: Seating & Hauling

I’ve searched Google Images for things like this but can anyone tell me of a place that makes smaller utility trailers for ATVs that have bench seating or made to haul people and maybe have some of these pieces modular so you could use it when not hauling people to haul other things? Trying to find a way to tote some folks around the hunting property and use it for other uses–basically a poor man’s Ranger is what I’m saying!

Thanks for your suggestions.

Trailer Anchor Points

I’m looking for some advice. I just got a trailer from my father in law. It’s a primarily metal trailer, with wood on the floor in strips, maybe 1.5 ft wide on the left and right. All of the walls on the trailer are removable so I’m not sure they would be good to use as anchor points.

Would something like this into the wood floor be strong enough to use with tie-downs? 4 would be the plan.

2009 Sportsman 850 Chugs

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and this is my first thread.
I am wondering if anyone can help with my issue. When I start my quad, all seems fine, but when I put it in drive or reverse and push the throttle lightly the quad will chug as if the clutch is not fully engaging. When I hit the throttle harder, this does not happen. Not sure if it is the clutch, belt?
No idea. I did check the fluids and they seem fine. I did buy the quad with over 1700 klms on it. Or 1200 miles. The guy I bought it from was a fairly heavy set fella. Not to say that is a bad thing, but may be a contributing factor why this quad has always done this. He was a younger guy too and told me the places he had ridden the quad. Turns out there are some pretty aggressive trails and deep mud holes to get stuck in. Any help would be appreciated.

Cooler/Bag help

I want to get a soft insulated bag to use as a cooler for the rear of my sportsman. I don’t want the rigid giant boxes. I want one that goes across the width of the atv and can hold 30-40 cans with ice and not leak out all over the seat and fenders. Is there such a thing? Ive seen the oft insulated cooler bags that hold 36 cans with ice for 24hrs at 100 degrees but these are hand bags. I really like this quad boss box but im not sure how it will work as a cooler. Moose makes one but its too small. Any help would be appreciated!
