My son has a 2006 Polaris Sportsman 500EFI ATV and we are having issues with it not starting. We get no power to the solenoid to engage the ignition. When we jump the solenoid the starter will turn over but the engine will not fire/start, the key is in the on position as is the start stop switch. My son did a search on-line and it was suggested that it was his power control module. He ordered one and installed it with no luck. I did some diagnostics and checked the fusible link and it checked out Ok as did several other points I checked to see if we had the obvious broken or corroded connections and did not find any at this time. We also replaced his battery because it seemed to not hold a charge and he thought it was the original and it had out lived it’s life. Any thoughts on what to check next would be a great help.

I went from stock exhaust to fmf silencer and a uni air filter. I also tried no airbox lid and wasnt right nor was on. I put 4, 1 inch holes in lid. I jetted 2001 300ex from 122 stock main to 130 and 38 to 40 on pilot. I have tried 2 and 2.25 out from seated position on fuel screw. Fmf gave me the jetting for main but I bumped up pilot myself thinking I needed more fuel to air. I replaced the accelerator pump as well for it was corroded and spring was not so tight. I can’t seem to get a smooth idle, even messing with idle screw. It runs better when warm, too lean right? It warms up very quick which tells me it may be lean but also am reading stuff that’s telling me I’m too rich, boggy and hesitant, lost as to what step is next . Please help if have accurate info. Thanks a bunch, Bonz

I just recently saw a memo that was floating around the US Forest Service regarding ‘performance exhaust systems for atv’s and dirt bikes.’ While these exhaust systems almost always have approved spark arrestors, the increased volume from them could get you into trouble on US Forest Lands and Trails. While States and Counties generally measure sound levels by decibels (db’s), the Forest Service determines if the sound of your machine (no matter how loud it is) is a nuisance or not. If people complain about the sound from your machine, you can be asked to curtail your activities. If wildlife is disturbed by the sound of your machine, you are generally asked to limit your activities in the presence of wildlife. If a law enforcement officer determines that the sound level from your exhaust is a nuisance, they can cite you.
I AM JUST THE MESSENGER. I’m not posting this message to say what you should or should not do. Rather, I’m posting it so that you’ll know that a louder (than stock) exhaust may get you attention that you don’t want. Not everyone likes atv’s and dirt bikes as much as we do, and if we do things that offend those people, their thoughts and opinions can make or break opportunities for us to ride in places.
Whether you feel that the small gain in performance is worth it or not, consider all aspects of making an exhaust change on your atv or dirt bike.
Again, I’m only the messenger! :icon_wink:
I just cant seem to find enough space in my garage.
Anyone using a lift/rack/hoist etc to store their atv (or other similar vehicles like a lawn tractor) so as to create a little more real estate in the garage?
