Brake Question….Is this possible

I’m so aggravated and was wondering if anyone here has any input. I’ve had no issues with the Outlander until this past weekend. Here’s what’s happening:

Last week, I had my local Can Am dealer install EBC Sever Duty brake pads (front and rear) on my ’09 Outlander 800R XT. These pads replaced the B.R.P. brake pads (which I never cared for). I took it out this past Saturday morning with the new pads installed and everything was going fine until about three miles into my ride. As I was riding down a dirt road, I got up to about 30 MPH, at which point I let completely off of the throttle. I didn’t touch the hand or foot brake, just let off the throttle. All of a sudden, I hear the most incredible grinding noise. I had know idea what the heck it was and became extremely nervous. I stopped, got off the ATV, and looked underneath to see if something got caught. Nothing was there. I got back on, got up to about 25 MPH and let off of the throttle again, not touching the hand or foot brake. Again, the grinding was teeth grinding.

Took it back to the dealership and duplicated the noise for them to hear. They had it for a few days and finally came back to me telling me that the tech seems to think the pads were getting hot. The tech then put a set of front and rear B.R.P pads on and the noise disappeared. I told him to really look over the machine and make sure it wasn’t a driveshaft phasing issue. He told me everything else looked to be fine. The grinding noise was so bad, to me, it sounded like the drive shaft was going to seize up and fall off and the universal joints were going to explode. It sounded like metal gears were grinding together.

I find it very hard to believe that brake pads would make that kind of noise. As fellow Outlander owners, have any of you experienced this issue? Why would EBC pads do this and not B.R.P. pads. Any questions or comments welcomed. It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

Thanks everyone!
