New to the forum here and first of all I want to say thanks for all the info, I have been reading for a few years and finally joined.
Alright, so right now I have an 2005 660 that is getting a little worn out so I will be buying a new used 700 when the opportunity arises. I’m looking for some suggestions on some tires. My ATV’s are mainly used as tools, and not toys. I use them to get to a cabin I have out in the woods, and the trail is very rough and quite often I’m not even on a trail. In the summer, its really, really muddy. And its all nasty clay. I also do a lot of riding in the winter when the ground is froze solid and before the snow gets too deep too.
So, from my experiences soft tires seem to work better and then we add tire chains for more traction in the mud, snow, and hopping over logs etc. My buddies and I have had a variety of tires over the years like Good Year Mud Runners, outlaws, and silver backs. Those are great in the mud, but by the time the ground freezes, they just slide around and spin and I’m sure you all know what happens next.
Bottom line, I looking for some guidance on a mild to aggressive soft tire. Also, if anyone could guess on what the biggest size I could fit on a stock 700 with the addition of tire chains. With out having a 700 in front of me now, I’m guessing maybe 27’s will fit? I would be really happy if 28’s do.
Thank you for any help!
P.S. I know I’ll probably have to do something with the clutch.
