Bad O-rings

Hello all,
I tried for several hours trying to find a similar problem that had an answer before posting,so if I missed it,forgive me.
I’m working on a friends ’95 Magnum 4×4 that has snowballed into a total teardown other than tearing motor and trans apart themselves(Had to remove trans to weld backside of spinning gear/chain cover nut on frame),and still not done,(pic oughta give you a laugh)lol.
Anyway,it has very low miles and just sat for years at his brothers. The drive chains and gears are in excellent shape with no wear at all other than the chains o-rings are shot and fall off when cleaning.
My question is….since the chains otherwise are great,is it okay for him to ride it with those? Will they just act like a regular chain up to the point they wear,or does any sideplay due to the o-rings being gone cause a concern?I’d hate to make him buy even more parts if they will work fine. Now that he has it back,maintenance/lube will be taken care of,so that’s not an issue, and he’ll probably never ride it hard at all either.Any advice is appreciated!

power steering issues

My powersteering has intermittently been working. Comes on and then goes off sporadically. The unit is kept garaged and clean but I did reclean the module itself. Now, my powersteering check light has come on. I did have a bad battery which was replaced but same things happening. Dealership wants lots $$$$$ to just to diagnose and then advised me the modules are $3000 if needing to be replaced. My atv is a 2010 sportsman with eps. Is it possible the power steering unit costs half of what the atv is worth or are they tring to hose me. Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

650 to 800 conversion

I have a friend who has a 2016 and he’s already flipped it in a mud hole and sunk it. He’s flushed out the motor pretty good but its been burning oil so now that the value of it has been significantly decreased it very well may become mine… My plan is to convert it to an 800ish since it needs to be bored might as well give her a big bore:clapsmilie: I’m just wanting some input on what direction to take this build in. I’ve decided I don’t have the budget to do a fully built motor with a 975cc kit, race cams, all that fun stuff so what I’mm thinking is just get either the 800cc kit or maybe the 840cc kit from mrrpm and then spending the rest of my money on some good clutching. the main one that has my eye is the stm rage 3 primary. Apparently they’re great clutches that will work with the stock secondary. The other option I noticed is a qsc primary with an stm secondary but that doesn’t look very likely given the qsc price tag alone is almost my entire budget:smilietwocents:

Over the bars

Hey guys, yesterday after work buddy and I go for a little ride. We have had a lot of rain in the last week.

Well we were cooking along pretty good and I was following.

I came up over a blind corner hill type deal and Buddy was stopped at the bottom. The wash out from the rain was about 3ft deep and 5ft wide. I didn’t have time for brakes and it was either hit my friend or try to avoid.

Well the front tires made it across when the rear tires hit the other side it launched/bucked me off over the front end. When I landed in front the the quad, it was hot on my heels! I tried me beat to get out of the way and the bike drove on top of me dragging me a good ten feet till my back hit a log and stopped the works. I was pinned under till my friend could pick up the front end.

My back hurt like crazy. I was pretty concerned. After a little breather we ride back to the trucks and I was off to the hospital. Few x rays and a shot of pain killer it was confirmed that I had two cracked ribs. Bruised back, a tooth through my lip and both hands the cut/bruised and a smacked up left knee.

We have rode this trail hundreds of times…. Thought I would share seeing as I’m laid up for a couple of days…

08 trx420 axle collar/ spacer stuck!?!

Hello and thank you all for a great forum!
I have an 08 Rancher 420, and it has started to make some noises in the rear differential. The axle has about 3/16 play left to right in the diff. So I bought the bearing kit, and pulled the axle off. I have had no luck getting the spacer/ collar off the axle on the diff side. axle nuts were TIGHT, but came off, Hubs, brake No problem…

The darn spacer won’t budge, I soaked it with Fluid Film Penetrating oil for the last 3 days, I tried heating it up to about 400 deg. Now I know I need seals  I used a big rosebud torch, so the spacer was HOT, but the axle was still close to ambient temp., Then clamped the spacer in a pipe vice and tried to beat the axle out with no luck.
Do you know what I’m doing wrong?

Thank You
Adam
