400ex Trail Upgrades

Hi guys, I recently bought my 07 EX and love it. I have done some trail riding the last couple of weekends, and that will be mostly where I ride it. I was wondering what you guys recommend for upgrades for the trail. I already have new tires, rims, a slip-on exhaust, and new grips.

Thanks,
Tom

97 recon 1 weak spark

Whats up yall i have a 97 recon. also have a 2002 recon that has spark, but has alot of motor issues, bearings chains cracked block. Took the stator out of the 02 and put it in the 97, plugged the 97 into the 97 harness and 02 harness, same thing on both harnesses.
The problem it is having is absolutely no spark until like the last revolution (very very weak also) after i take the jumper cables off the solenoid. does anyone know what could be causing this?

Honda 300 carb

Working on a 1999 300 2×4. It wouldn’t run except on carb cleaner. The valves knocked and the starter died. I changed the starter and adjusted the valves to .006 and cleaned the carb. I pulled it apart and stuck everything in my sonic cleaner with simple green for 20 min then rinsed in warm water then used air to dry. Everything seemed to be clean.

I put it back on tonight with a armor tech cr222 carb kit from the local dealer and added 1′ of clear fuel line and a clear fuel filter. When I opened the fuel valve no fuel flowed. I took the line off the valve and was getting good flow out of the tank so that’s not the problem. I removed the filter and just made a short line straight to carb. After pushing the primer bulb about 100 times I took it off and no fuel is behind it. Is it supposed to?

It will crank and idle for about 5 seconds then die and won’t re crank for about 5 min. It runs fine if shooting carb cleaner in the intake Any ideas on what I missed.

Matching wheel width to tire width

OK, so I have been reading and reading and…. you get the picture. So, I cannot find any discussions on what width wheels to match to x width tires. I don’t want to spend my hard earned $ on a poor setup… Basically, I’m looking at picking up a set of Maxxis Zilla’s either 28" or 30" (probably going to be the 30") and 9" wide front 11" wide rear. I have seen a few times that most people run 7" wide wheels all around, some run 6" up front and 8" rear and everything inbetween. What is actually the best setup for this configuration? Is there a rule of thumb like always get a rim 2" smaller then your tire? I like the idea of having the same size rim all the way around just for the purpose of being universal, but that’s about all I got… Also, I was considering running 11" wide tires all the way around, but that’s not going to work if I run the 30" tall tires, but I would like to plan for future setups too.

New 2016 Grizzly

I picked up my new 2016 Grizzly 700 EPS today, traded in my 2013 Polaris 850 XP HO EPS. I haven’t had a chance to ride it much yet, but so far I’m very pleased.

I ordered a Yamaha rear cargo box from the local dealer, he gives me a fair discount. Also ordered a set of 26 inch Bear Claw HTR’s with STI HD6 machined wheels from Pure Offroad.

I also sold a TRX90 the grand-kids have kind of out grown, so I’m down to machines, 2 Ranchers and the new Grizzly.

Dead Battery?

So I’ve had my headlight pod pulled apart for a couple days waiting for my light bar to come in. The light showed up today and I wired it up, checked it and it works perfectly as it should. Try to start it up and it just clicks.

Could having the gauge cluster disconnected drain the battery? The first thing I wired up was an inline fuse holder and I left the fuse out until it was all done. I put my trickle charger on it and checked after about a half hour and it started right up but it still seems a little odd…..
