’85 TRX250 2wd high idle..

So, this is the 250 I mentioned in another thread with the bad engine, it has a terrible top end tap/knock which I suspect is little end and piston/rings.
Since owning it I’ve not used it because of the issue but it’s never idled as it should. Before I even attempted to fiddle around I ordered a carb rebuild kit to which I have now fitted.
All the jets were the same as the old ones I removed and I replaced every seal as expected, but still it won’t run properly.
If I fore it up from cold the idle is to low and I have to apply very slight throttle to keep it running, when it’s warmed up and you ride around for five minutes the idle sits high (at a guess around 2000rpm) and shows no signs of dropping even if I give it a rev.
Now my first thought was that the carb must be sucking air from somewhere, so I sealed every possible point that it could suck air from but it made no difference.
I’ve tinkered with the carb endless amounts of times and even stripped, cleaned and rebuilt again but to no avail.
All I can think is that the carb is worn out or has a hairline crack that opens up when it gets warm.

Any ideas?

Question about axles on ATVs

I have a quick question about how hard it should be when you push an ATV. I am pretty new to having an ATV so im not sure how hard it should be. Granted im no small guy, 6′ 220lbs. Hello!

Greetings everyone:wave:. Knotty_duck the FNG here! A little about myself, I love fishing and the outdoors. Hunted a couple of times up in Georgia but live in Florida. Im pretty new to the ATV world. Been wanting to get one since I went on an ATV tour in Ocala National Forest. I was fortunate to find a used project ATV that I think I am able to ressurect from the dead. The best thing about it is that I bought it for $75. It is a 1995 Sportsman 400 and the best thing i love about it is the plastics are in really good shape. Well I hope that is enough of an intro for now. looking forward to learning a lot on this forum and hopefulyl meet some local people to ride with once I get my rig up and going. Cheers!

2009 rear wet brake

my brakes have been bad for a while. I was thinking of changing the back wet brakes. I understand they are in the rear diff. Has anyone on here ever replaced them. I was planning on taking out the rear diff and taking it apart. Should there be plates inside. where is the best place to buy new ones.

Looking at to buy first Can Am

Hello, new to the forum and Can Am. I have owned many Polaris products but never a Can Am. I am not brand loyal, I just have a Polaris dealer right across the street. I went to look at a Polaris Sportsman High Lifter 1000 today and was not impressed at all by the fit and finish of that $14,000 machine. So I am looking to try Can Am and want a XMR. But I can’t decide which model, Renegade 1000 XMR or Outlander 850 XMR. I really want a 1000 motor so that is why I am leaning towards the Renegade. I wish the Outlander 1000 XMR was on the short frame or that is the one I would buy as I tend to like the "utility style" quads. Any opinions on which one I should get? As some back ground, I ride all styles of trails so I do plan to get a second set of tires for trail use. Thanks

Newbie from Michigan

Hello everyone. New to Can Am/Bombardier, but not new to toys that either help me catch fish or haul deer from the woods. I just picked up a 2004 Outlander 330 4×4 for an engine rebuild project – listed locally as having "engine problems". Removal of the valve cover revealed the timing chain had slipped of the cam gear, so hopefully the damage is minimal. Either way, I always enjoy the challenge of bringing this stuff back to life. I’ve discovered some very useful information within the can-amform so far. I look forward to learning more from other members. If anyone has a similar machine to mine and wants to share some words of wisdom, please do. Thanks.
