Hey I’m new here I been riding trails for a few years. I ride a little duel sport motorcycle a Yamaha TW200 (it’s more like a two wheeled ATV then a dirt bike). I LOVE the goofy machine and have no intentions of replacing it. BUT last year I picked the wife up a used cheap beater quad that I fixed up for her to try and see if she would enjoy joining me on my off road trips.
Well turns out she loves it BUT hates the shifting gears and that old Suzuki is a bit finicky at times. So we are in the market for a new ATV for her that’s auto simple to use, comfy, reliable and fun. Power really is not a concern as she’s only ever riding with me on my TW and we take it slow. Don’t really see mud mostly sand and rock trails. Likly may use it for plowing our two car driveway but even the 2wd 250 could pull that off most days.
She loves the comfort and style of the Polaris sportsman 570 we looked at in the dealer the other day. But I’m torn on getting her that or a 2016 450 HO
The 450 may run cooler being a lower tune and the 13 hp difference is not an issue for our use. BUT being a one year model has me wondering.
We are also limited by tow vehicle. As I have a Toyota Tacoma and a 4′ by 7′ trailer (bike goes in truck ATV in trailer). Trailer measures exactly 49" wide and 85" long). Is the 450 any physically smaller than the 570?
I am looking to buy Kodiak 4X4 this weekend. I thought I found the one I wanted. 2003 Kodiak 450. Needs a small amount of work to it but it the guy is not lining, I should be in good shape. I was told I would not be able to come get it tell Sunday.
So I started thinking I need to find a back-up just in case something happens and as I was looking I found a 2005 with IRS. Not being big into ATV for many years, I did not know that they make them that way.
Well it got me thing a lot and now I am not sure what I need to get.
Been on google a lot and did read that some like it and some dont. from what I read did not get a lot in detail so I am here thing what way should I go.
In my mind I am kinda wanting to go with IRS. Just because its newer and it looks good. But on the other side I am thinking the price point for the 2003 is 1650.00 and its more into my range. The 2005 I started looking at is 3200.00.
Now I want to know if its something I need to look more into? I know I do not want to buy the 2003 and then wish I bought the 2005 with IRS.
So I am looking at Pro’s and Con’s on both of them. Any info will be very helpful. Thank you all for your time.
Hello all. I am looking to by a Kodiak 450 this weekend and trying to do all the reading up on them that I can. So far this page has had more info on them then any other pages.
New CDI installed and the bike started up easily (included break-in oil with the new oil/filter). The idle was high and the carb needs some tuning work, but I was happy to hear the engine run and run pretty well. Truly grateful for the help from these forums.
I tried to upload some pictures of the project and the plastics. Don’t know if it worked. As can be seen, the pics are from prior to top end build.
Does anyone know of an extended idle set screw (Keihin) to aid in adjusting the idle (tired of burning my hands!). I have seen a couple that look like they would work, but a part number would help greatly. I think I am going to rebuild my rebuilt carburetor with the Shindy’s kit that I ordered upon recommendation.
I have a video of the running project I will try to post.
Thanks again for all the help and progress is happening. Now I need to find a cheap set of tires so I can take it through the gears.
My local Polaris dealer is holding a contest, they want people to show them a picture of their Polaris rides. Their first price is a Northstar cooler.
Just go to Facebook and look for Elliff Polaris and like my post "Lucas" I have my wife’s, RZR S, my son’s Phoenix and my Ranger 900….. and my dog Lola who decided to make a cameo lol.
