1997 Sportsman 500 – Complete brake replacement

I have the chance to buy a 1997 Polaris Sportsman 500 for $1K but the catch is that it needs brake work. The guy thinks it needs a new caliper but not 100% sure.

If I were to buy the 4-wheeler and had to replace all brake components, what do you think it would run? I would replace all hoses, calipers, pads and rotors. I know it has a new front brake handle and master cylinder.

It starts and runs (obviously doesn’t stop) but seems to have a hard jerk/jump forward when first giving it throttle. Could that be because it’s sat for a while and maybe just needs a fluid change?

Where is a good place to buy Polaris parts?

2017 Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 Review

Brutally powerful ATV gets refined

From the start the Polaris Sportsman has been a force to be reckoned with, but in the model year 2017 the new Sportsman XP 1000 will make any Polaris loyal drool.

In a brief visit to the mountains of Great Falls, Mont., we had the opportunity to get under the bars of this machine for a few hours. The looks are inspiring and the feel of the powerful 952cc fuel injected engine is empowering to say the least. It was a chance encounter on a long trail that allowed us to get more familiar with the ride that Polaris says is RAD! That is short for Rider Active Design and here is how it played out for us.

Knowing the biggest displacement ATV produced by Polaris would get some much due attention, it was our goal to not only search out the key features but to try and test, if only briefly, each one. The power delivery of the Sportsman’s engine can now be modulated in three different fashions. This is what Polaris refers to as its tri-mode throttle control. Most will never realize that this is also a throttle-by-wire system either…surprise!

Can-Am Maverick X3 Daytona Build

BRP’s custom Maverick X3 highlights NASCAR partnership

BRP took the covers off a custom Can-Am Maverick X3 dressed in what it calls the Daytona Package at the recent Can-Am 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Phoenix this past weekend.

The project makes a lot of sense, as BRP’s Can-Am brand will be seen on the circuit for at least the next two years through its collaboration with the GoFAS No.32 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team. The agreement will see Can-Am sponsor 36 races, 13 as the primary sponsor.

Jumpd ship to Polaris

Well guys picked up my new 2017 Matte copper XP 1000LE
All I can say is wow ! Performance Wow, fast. Ride Wow. Steering Wow
Fit and finish on par with Yamaha. Not even in same league with Grizzy for ride or power not even with the Elkas on there. Sorry and I’ve been a Yamaha advocate for 35 years
As long as it stays together should be no issues. Attached a couple shots

AWD problem??

2016 570sp. The atv says AWD but I noticed coming out of a mud hole this weekend my front left tire wasn’t spinning. And yes I did have it on 4×4. I even clicked over to the down hill 4×4. Is there a problem? Do all 4 tires not move at the same time? I’m still new to polaris and this atv has 72 miles on it right now.

2004 sportsman 500 ecm shorted out

went hunting with my sportsman 500 HO when I was done I went to start it and it was dead . I smelt burnt wiring , tried the pull start and that didn’t work. after I got it home I found the main feed wire for the ECM melted , from the battery to the ECM . there was a fuse able link in the circuit but it didn’t open . had to replace two wires in the harness . ordered the ECM hopefully that will solve the problem . is this a common problem ? I have a 2004.5 the dealer said the 2004 had a recall on the ECM :bud:

Sportsman 850 ride quality

I’ve only had my ’13 850xp eps for 4 days. I thought the ride was very smooth when I did a test ride but as the terrain I’m riding gets tougher I’m really pleased. The only quads I have to compare it to however are my old ’94 sportsman 400, honda 400ex, yamaha grizz 660. The grizz I’ve ridden recently. It was more like riding a horse…it’s bouncy and your butt gets tired and sore after awhile. Plus it has a lot of vibration. Maybe it was just this particular 660. The 850 is like riding a sofa. It’s so comfy and the oem suspension really does a great job absorbing roots and such. Can’t wait to get home to ride it.
