Hello friends. I thought it might be fun to think a bit about what is legal to motor down our roads with, and what is not.

If a 50 cc motor scooter is street legal, then why not my Can Am? I propose an ATV can be licensed and insured as a motorcycle with very similar requirements in most states. A new ATV would cost more to license than a 10 year old one. The additional revenue the counties would collect would more than offset the additional hassle of traffic policing when an ATV rider runs a stop sign. We owners can decide if the cost and hassle and risk of street riding is worth it, otherwise keep the ATV in the garage as we do now.
I think seeing an ATV on the street would be rather rare.
Do you have any mopeds riding the streets in your town? California certainly does as old ones are popular now. Show me some pictures of motorized vehicles that are "lesser" than ATVs but still street legal.
have some rot on the lower right frame rail of my sportsman 500. its where the footpeg connects..my question is is it still ok to ride? is the frame gonna snap? its seems fine to still ride. Also i was thinking of squirting some expanding foam in there to prevent water from getting into the frame and making it worse. Any other ideas?
Bought this quad used about months ago had around my back yard with no problems at all. 1st time i took it out and did some hard riding it shut down on me about 30 minutes into the trip while riding in a shallow stream. I waited about 30 seconds and it started right back up. I never heard the fan come on and didn’t notice the dashboard flashing HOT. It rode fine for about another 20 minutes then sputtered like it wanted to shut down but never did then i took it back home. Since then i have installed a new thermostat, a new thermistor, and a temperature gauge with a fan bypass switch. I got the engine up to 195 degrees today and still no fan. When i use the switch to manually turn it on it does its job and cools the engine pretty quickly. I have 2 questions that hopefully someone can answer.. 1. What is the cause of the fan not turning on itself? and 2. If i manually control the engine temperature by turning the fan on and off as needed will it still cut out or will i be ok? What actually tells the engine to shut off? and incase you are wondering, Yes this quad was under the ecm recall and it was replaced.
I bought a Yamaha heavy duty brush guard for my 15 grizzly 700 EPS and the kit didn’t come with nut for the bolts that bolts to bottom of the front fender plastic. Wondering if anyone had this problem with yours when installing it?
Just got a 12 850 ho and have been reading about the pinion cover deal. I plan on keeping it pretty much stock maybe someday some different 26" tires. Is it necessary to replace that cover? How many stock ATVs have broke them? Thanks for any advice
Hey everyone I’m about to get all my stuff to together to build my bike up, its a 2015 sportsman 850 SP. Now I’ve never really thought about it till now when I’m about to start (go figure) what does everyone typically do about their third light on their bikes when they put the rad relocate and snorkels on since its basically useless at that point.
Hello, new to the forum. my son has a 2014 sportsman 90 that i need to rebuild the upper engine on it ( has close to 2,000 est hrs on it) however I am having trouble finding a rebuild kit for the 2014. i can find all day long rebuild kits for the 2004,2005,2006 models but no cross referencing to see if it will work for the ’14. my next step is to check the much higher cost through the local polaris dealer where I purchased the atv from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I’m having a problem shifting my kodiak with the foot shifter. Reverse works great. Just can’t shift the forward gears. It seems that the shifter is unable to go up or down in gears. With constantly moving the foot shifter up and down it will eventually shift. I was wondering if anyone had any insight on this or a way to fix this issue.
1. The bike only runs with the choke half way out and fully choked i can run the bike fine nothing wrong, my question is, does it have something to do with the new carb i just installed on it would I have to adjust the fuel adjuster on the bottom? the only way to adjust it is taking it out. (damn Polaris and the way they put the bikes together lol)
2. AWD doesn’t seem to engage I read the manual and it says it engages under 3100 RPM and i was under 3.1k and i was on sugar sand and it didn’t want to engage all that happened was the back tires kept spinning
