Programmer needed?

I have a 2007 outlander 800. Have a intake set up and hmf swamp exhaust. Do I need a programmer? It seems to run fine pops a little but no driveability issues. Just don’t want to run the engine lean/hot. If I do what brand is,suggested

1st time Polaris owner

Hello all, The wife and I went black Friday shopping and picked up a 2016 Sportsman XP 1000 Touring. To be honest if it wasn’t on clearance we probably would have bought the can am version. anyways we got it home Saturday and put a few hours on it and all in all i really like it, more than enough power and comfortable to ride with 2 people. i look forward to learning and talking with people about them. i have had nothing but Yamaha for the past 20 years. the plow and winch should be here later this week, i also want to get hand guards and heated grips for it and i already took the mirrors off.

Mud Pro Down!!

McLean Creek claims another victim. The Mud Pro was trying to follow the Griz on Saturday when the front tire dropped into a washout and rolled violently down a 200′ hill. My buddy got off safely and actually rode the machine 5 miles back to the truck. About 5 hours total time on machine.

97 sportsman wont start

I have a 97 Polaris sportsman 500. Has fire, fuel. Timing is right. I have replaced the stator, cdi box, plug. checked compression, from what I have read you cant do an accurate test due to the auto decompression. when I tested it if got 50 psi. need help please

2017 850 XT Update

Well I have had the new 850XT for 1500 kms now and here is an update so Far. I love the handling and power on this machine. My wife and I can spend time riding together in style. The power steering is great and I am assuming the Visco Lok works as advertised. I have not noticed it locking up. I also have never been stuck. The BRP Linq system is great as I can change up racks and storage as needed.

In my previous posts I have had issues with heat and noise. The heat issue was a real problem as it was almost not rideable with the heat on the left side. I took it into the dealer to check it out and got the usual response, it is normal and if no plastic has melted they will not address it. This despite the melted rubber from my boots stuck to the clutch cover. Great customer service

My solution to the problem is to wear fire and heat resistant long johns under my pants. I now hardly notice the heat when riding slow. I do find it hard to believe that on a $15k ATV BRP would not deal with it.

I also have the wa..wa..wa.. noise coming from the rear diff. When I took it to the dealer for that issue I was told that it was normal and the demo on their lot makes the same noise. The rear diff whine is really annoying above 25kph . I keep thinking that the rear end will fail at anytime. I guess I just expected more . I have owned 7 other ATV in my life and have put over 60k kilometers on them, I have never had anything close to this noise. The support from BRP and its dealer has been horrible.

I have run Redline shockproof in my Harley for years and it really made the transmission quite and shift great. Has anyone run this in the front and rear diffs on the Can Am ? Wondering if it would help with the noise.

Like many others on this forum the whine from the belt is always present, the good news is it gets drowned out by the rear diff noise above 25kph !! I will change the belt soon and put a Gates belt in and see if it helps

If I was to do it over I would have bought another Grizzly and saved about $4k here in Canada. I really did expect more from what BRP claims is a "Premium" atv. This has just been my actual experience so far.

Someone please explain what happened?!

a few months ago i posted that my 15′ 800 xmr with k&n air filter and go deep snorkels, wasn’t getting top speed of 64-65mph any more. Members suggested the belt, so i changed it, didn’t make difference but i hardly ever ride that fast so i said what ever.

Saturday i rode, mud and trails for a few hours then got on the road to get gas, so i opened her up, throttle pined all i got was 54mph – 6000rpm. i kept the throttle pined cuz i was on the rode. the all of a sudden i heard the rams come up and the bike like took off, bam 64mph. got to a red light b4 the gas station, waited for green then walked the throttle and she took off like a bat outta hell, hasn’t had that throttle response since it was new.

when i got to the gas station i walked around the bike and knoticed the exhaust was a tad louder, more of a deeper sound. could she have blown something in the muffler? my friends think it may have just had crud in it and it finally blew out but im not sure.

new to me trx400FA

hey there everyone, I recently was given a TRX400FA 2005 by my father’s friend. it was owned and ridden by his father-in-law.

it has 3700 miles, and upon tearing into it to get to the starter and solenoid (replacing solenoid first, then ill see about the starter, because the solenoid was sticking) i found a few more problems.

One problem (that I actually read up on here) was about oil flying out when taking the fill cap off while engine is running. But a thread here said that’s normal. The dipstick tube has blow by as well but again it was said that that was normal. The oil is diluted, which should be due to a stuck float?

In any event, my plan goes as follows:
-Remove gas tank (done)
-Clean gas tank and replace screen and gauge (parts ordered)
-Replace carb (ordered)
-Check all fuel lines and clean if possible/necessary
-Actively make sure I always close the fuel valve when not in use.
-Change oil and filter (ordered enough supplies for two changes, to really make sure the oil is flushed out)
-Check compression at plug hole. There is compression there, but does anyone know how much should be there?
-New plug
-Run it.

Does anyone know about the ticking as well? My honda friends all insist that thats normal.

So I guess my three questions are as follows (summarized)
-Is the blow by at the fill cap and dipstick normal?
-What should the compression be after how many pulls?
-Should I worry about the ticking?
-Assuming this thing is good and doesnt need to be rebuilt, what else in the way of lube/oil can be done/checked to ensure this thing is 100%?
