Is the frame on the high lifter edition the same as the regular edition? It’s a 4 seater and I want to put a roof on it but I can’t seem to find roofs that are made for the high lifter. Guessing that it’s the same frame layout. Just wanted to check.
I can’t decide what 4Wheeler to spend more time and money on (and likely keep). I’d really like some stories and/or opinions. Are the 2001s and the like as tough and reliable as the early Fourtrax/Foreman?
My heart says fix up the 2001, sell it to complete the ’88 Foreman. My brain says fix of the 2001 and sell the 1988 Foreman. I really don’t have a need or storage space to keep both. Both need a set of tires so that’s a wash.
1988 – (Even I decide to live with the natty plastics)
Pro – Rides like a tank and tough as nails
Pro – A lot of time and $$ already invested
Pro – Runs well
Con – Still needs a lot of work and $$
Con – Parts less available and more $$$
2001
Pro – Parts available and relatively cheap
Pro – Already looks great
Pro – Carb rebuild and tires to complete. (Hopefully)
Pro – Has a pull start
Con – Is not a 1988 straight axle
Con – Does not run (yet)
Con – IFS (lot of moving parts)
One of the things that really bug me with my machine is the ugly, yellow headlight lens. I’ve tried looking around the web to see if I could get just replacement lens. I can’t even find replacement headlights that fit. They are 3"x5". Anyone have any ideas? Or can I refurbish them?
Had a mishap today plowing ,one of the plow pivot pins came out while plowing and jammed into the front a arm guard. These clip pins do not like to stay put, definitly not a fan of this attachment ! Scratched up the guard ,better than hitting the A arm 😐 Was able to put a conventional snap pin in place to finish up. Anybody have any problems with these on there Warn ProVantage plow ?
I just bought a used plow for my 2004 Sportsman 500 HO. Does anyone know who makes it? I notice it on Arctic Cats but I was told Arctic Cat doesn’t make plows.
Just came inthe mail today . Have to make some mods to it ,main tube is 1/2" to long and have to drill new pin holes for the top piece. Gets the cargo rack up 4 " .
Still got the F-150 for small hauls for close area riding, but really needed to upgrade for longer riding trips for several days at a time. Got real tired of the hotels and having to leave the party. Now I get to stay and play with my new hauler. I sure hope it doesn’t have any problems pulling the ATV. haha
I have a 2008 Honda rancher 420. its manual, and will not shift to 5th gear unless I’m riding very low rpms, or just sitting still. When I’m at high rpms, and got to put it in 5th, it will not even try. can someone please tell me is this an easy fix, or something with clutch

Had my defender since my dealer took delivery of the first camo hd10 xt camo CAB. So let me just start… I love the machine I also have a ranger 1000 but I’m not going to compare the two machines in this thread.
Issues:
1) window buttons: this is very frustrating for me all three original window switches failed on me and I had to have them replaced the new switches have a different logo on them so hopefully I don’t have the same issue twice.
2) doors opening closing very hard after some use… solution: had a buddy readjust lube and tighten them back up they seem a lot better.
3) heating vents: almost all my are broke from kids hitting them in or taller people knees kicking them in.
4)suspension: the factory suspension is terrible I got the upgraded springs and it helped a little I then added the 2" highlifter lift kit which really help but now made the back too stiff for my riding preference so I need to tune in a little more.
I really like the machine the cab is way nicer then Polaris. The Polaris handles sportier I feel but I also haven’t put my cab on the Polaris so it’s tough to compare.
I just put the apache tracks on it so I’m excited to see how it works after having a ranger with Camoplast tracks since 2011.
