NJ Newb

Greetings, just moved to Northern NJ from Austin, TX because I really just couldn’t stand not paying state income tax anymore.. hmm wait, that’s not right.

Anyway, I’ve lived in the Northeast for years prior to my 5 year stint in Austin (great town). I’ve always owned snowblowers and been happy with them. This time I have a bit of acreage and a bigger driveway (although flat). Used it as an excuse to grab an ATV instead.

Just bought a 2017 Grizzly EPS with a yamaha branded warn 2500 and a plow picking it up later this week.

Looking forward to trail riding and hunting with it as well.

Any newb tips are certainly appreciated. I know my way around Tractors, Motorcycles and Jeeps but haven’t done much (any) work on ATVs so looking forward to it.

Bleeding brakes

HI I know how to bleed brakes but how about when the brake levers are in and the system is dry? Is there a spring that pushes the plunger out ?

Man this 96 / 6×6 sure has been neglected. I knew the bleed screw was going to come out hard so I heated it with a torch and it broke anyhow. I sprayed them with pb blaster and let set overnight too. Should I try to replace it or just leave it and use the line as a bleed.

thanks KK4

New Odyssey Battery

So I just installed an Odyssey battery in my Jeep! This will be my forth Odyssey. I also have one in my DR leaf and lawn vac, my 800, and my Buick. What makes this particular install significant is how this new battery rolls the engine over so powerfully. Back in 13′ I had a Jasper engine installed in the Jeep. Aside from the engine and generic tune-up parts and maintenance parts I had a new battery (interstate) and starter installed. This is where the issue began, on hot days after shutting the Jeep off and then coming back say within a half an hour to re-start it there was a point in the rotation of the motor where the starter labored. I was confident this was just a tight spot in the new remanufactured engine. So fast forward 3yrs with one of those years the Jeep sat due to a blown tranny and so did the newish interstate battery. Recently as the weather began to get colder the interstate was showing signs of fatigue so I ordered up the Odyssey which I’m not to thrilled to say I OVER paid for due to a late night multi mail order spree I went on. The Sierra needs 2 new batteries and I will be sure to order them from batterymart.com! The new Odyssey has 950cca compared to the 675cca of the interstate. All in all I’m certainly pleased with the performance of the Odyssey and the way it cranks the motor over so fast. The engine just fires so much faster now and faster then it ever did with the interstate.

Almost forgot I had a bad neg terminal so I split the OEM one with the dremel and broke it apart with pliers. Then I used solder terminals on the harness and bolted them to the replacement battery terminals. This way if in the future the bat terminals fail new ones can easily be bolted up.

400ex questions about idle

I was having an issue with my 2007 400ex cutting out after high speed passes and when letting off throttle. Took it to a shop for repairs and the valves were adj, carb cleaned, and replaced/repaired header screw bolts. Now the quad has a lot more throttle response but it won’t idle. The repair guys said it can be bc of the k&n air filter lid and advised I should get the stock lid bc it’s letting in too much air. What do u guys think? I never had this issue before, but also this is my first winter with the quad and it’s about 30deg. It won’t stall after riding now, but still is not idling unless occasionally giving it gas.

Charging problems

I have a 1994 Polaris sportsman 400 liquid cooled 4×4 while at the deer lease last weekend the lights went dim and would not start except by pull rope. Battery is new. How do you go about checking the charging system from alternator to voltage regulator. Good machine inherited from my dad after he passed really want to keep it up as he did. Thanks for your help.

inner clutch cover

Hi
Is it possible to tell if the inner clutch guard / cover is warped with out taking the clutches off? [pita] I have to replace the outer and have it apart. I have a puller for the primary but not the secondary and it looks like it has never been pulled. The primary looks to be in ok condition. So I would rather not.
