2006 trx400fa issues

I have a 2006 trx400fa. A while back when I would put it in reverse (and sometimes it did this in drive) the gear indicator would go to just "–" and it would pop and sputter and barely move. If it had been run for a while and warmed up it would work fine. Then recently I had plans to take a trip and go riding. So I wanted to get this issue fixed before I went. I started googleing away and found that it could be the angle sensor, I tested it and it was bad. So I purchased a new honda one and installed it. I did the preload and everything and it was still not working. So I did more googeling and found that the battery could be the issue. Then I took the battery to the local dealer and had it tested and it was bad. This was not surprising as it was the original battery. I then purchased a new battery from the dealer and installed it. I then wen’t through the initialization process and it Worked! I rode it around a little bit and everything including reverse was working perfect. I loaded it up and the next day left for my trip. When I got there I unloaded it and everything was fine. Then the next time I put it in reverse it stared all over again. The difference now was that in drive if I came to a complete stop it would go to "–", but if I would take off and go without stopping it was fine. I am getting code 5. I have read all the forums and watched all the videos. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps with no luck. Can someone please just tell me how to fix this?

Brake fluid reservoir HELP

It’s been a while since I posted on here but it was extremely beneficial when I did…. thank you.

A few weeks ago I noticed on both of my 2015’s brake reservoirs on the handlebars were leaking from the gasket in between the cap and housing. Both have been garage kept since new and don’t take many trips to mud…. is this a normal Polaris thing? I’ve had Hondas 10-15 years old that never had that issue… just curious if a temperature change will cause enough expansion to overtake the gasket. Both caps were hand tight as I’ve never checked them until now. Both seemed to be on tight enough to seal and remain sealed. Any help much appreciated.

2016 Rancher Smoking and loud noise, now overheating too

I’ve got a brand new 2016 trx420fm1 that I bought a year ago. I haven’t ridden it much(55 hrs worth) but I got deployed to Japan for 6 months and left it with a friend of mine who decided to take it riding. While he was out it started smoking and ticking real bad. The dealership told me they were gonna have to replace the crank and everything so naturally I said "screw you, I’m not paying for that."
Now, I’ve replaced the valves twice and it hasn’t even remotely fixed the smoking issue. I’ve read almost all the blogs about 4 wheelers smoking, and tried all the solutions, compression is 120psi and the piston look fine. Granted I’m not a pro but shouldn’t doing this 2 times be stopping something? I just put it back together from the 2nd valve job and now it’s overheating by the time I get to the end of my block test riding it.
There’s also a ton of oil in the muffler. If anyone else has any ideas that would solve a world or worry and confusion! Thanks in advance!

Shifting Problem

Hello all,

I have a 2001 Honda rancher 350 electric shift that is having shifting problems and I need help right away! Im trying to kick it on down the road and cant sell it until I figure this out.

Basically, I swapped a motor out that ran from another machine with the one that was in it because the electronics thought it was in 4th but wasnt, (posted the problem on another thread, got no responses) and the "new" motor wasnt shifting properly and I assumed it was the shifter motor, looks like that wasnt the case because trying to diagnose my current issue, I tested that shifter motor and it worked.

So this is what happens, the thing will not shift using the electric shift but the foot shift works and it knows what gear it is in. I tested the shifter motor and that works. I replaced the switches and that didnt work. I replaced all the fuses and still nothing.

I need some help with this because I am at wits end and just want the thing sold so I can pay off what I have been doing to my 02 rancher. Please any insight at all will be much appreciated!

Think I made a mistake…

So i bought a brand new 2016 outlander 1000 xmr in digital camo last month and I think I may have made a mistake in purchasing a quad.. I have ridden dirtbikes for a while now and my thought was that this would be something I could take the kids for a ride on every once in a while.. The problem is, it’s not very often that i have anyone in tow and to be honest the quad is not nearly as fun IMO as the dirtbike.. I think i talked myself into the quad with the kids and all but they are still pretty young and realistically will not be out much yet.. Maybe in a couple more years i could get a SXS which I think may be safer and easier for family fun..
I only have about 5 hours on the quad, but unfortunately i may be listing up for sale pretty soon… I’m sure I’ll probably take a beating on this one.. I went all in when i bought it by also buying a new set of wheels and 28" Bighorn 2.0’s, the two up seat, a 4" rack extension, and the 20gal semi rigid can am bags.. I’m in VA and was curious where you guys have had the best luck selling??

94 sportsman 400 4×4 lift

Has anyone on here lifted an older model sportsman 400L 4×4? I purchased a 1994 sportsman 400 4X4 and I am looking for maybe 1-2" of lift. Everywhere I read, people are lifting 2000+ sportsmans that no longer have the chain driven rear axle. All those posts discuss how the lifts break the CV joints and what not.

When lifting a sportsman 4×4 in the 90-97 year range, is the CV joint angle an issue with a 2" spacer lift? How is the rear lifted since it is chain driven, and does the lift affect anything with the chain and how it operates?

Either that or I I am thinking about adding some spacers to stiffen the springs a little bit. Do spacers put the CV joints at the same risk of damage as the lift kits? Do the spacers get installed at the top, or the bottom of the spring?

does anyone have any pictures of their machine in this year range that is lifted? Specifically the rear lift bracket, or the front lift spacers?

Thanks.
