96 Fourtrax 200 froze brake cam

Newbie here. I bought a 96 200 fourtrax for the kids that have no brakes. When I pulled the rear drum there was nothing in there and I realized the brake cam was frozen. I have never fooled with brakes on atvs but what I did realize is they no longer make that brake cam so I need some advice on how to get it out without damaging it. Thanks in advance.

660 starter question

hi guys, I’ve got an ’04 660 and when I start it, there’s a groaning sound when it fires up for a quick second after I take my finger off the start button, then it’s gone. I heard that my starter could spin even after it fires up, and they tell me it’s not serious if I fix it soon. Any thoughts?

Can Am XPS Oils

Just getting ready to do my first oil change and want some clarification if possible. This is not another what lube to run thread.

I’ve read the manual and know what my machine (2017 850 XTP) calls for, I’m also aware that a lot of guys here run Amsoil, Royal Purple, Rotella, or Mobile One.

So I go to the dealer to pick up a filter as I’ve always ran OEM filters and was planning on running Mobil One but he talks me into buying their oil change kit for $60.00. I woke up this morning with huge buyers regret and plan to return this as I have not yet opened it. His claim was it was designed specifically for the machine, he then went on to say something about the engine has wet clutches that require this oil, what the hell are wet clutches in the engine?? I should have walked out right there but for some reason I bought it.

Can you guys confirm or not, is there something in the XPS oils that is a benefit or is it all 100% marketing BS. Their diff/gearbox lube is like $33.00 a quart, WTF. I assume the XPS oils are just repackaged mainline oils or is this stuff really different?

Fan not working – 08 Sportsman 500

Hello once again,

I’m back with a new issue, and really, I believe I just need help locating the components on the bike.

On Monday I was plowing for the first time this year, and the bike overheated before I finished my driveway; the overheating has happened before, but not so soon. I checked, and noticed the fan wasn’t spinning at all.

Did some research online, and found a thread related to a 2011; experienced similar issues, and traced it back to a circuit breaker (SSCB) that needed to be replaced. On the 2011, he said it was near the battery, under the airbox. Does anyone know where this would be on a 2008?

From the service manual, I tried to do some of the trouble shooting, but the draw test can’t be done because the fan won’t come on, even with the heat sensor disconnected. I plugged the fan directly into a 12V, and it spun without issue.

At this point, from what little I know, I’m guessing the issue is in the relay or the SSCB? I think I know where the relay is, and I’ve pulled it to look for corrosion (none). I suspect there is a way to test it was a meter; if anyone knows that process, it would also help.

I took some photos of what I could locate to confirm I’m looking at the right parts. One is of the heat sensor (I think, please confirm). The other is of a SSCB, its located close to the ECU and relays, up front. Not sure what this one is for.

I grabbed a photo of two SSCB’s that are wired into a red line coming directly from the battery, towards the back of the bike. Well I thought I took the photo.. What would these be for?

There is a winch on the bike (probably a given because I was plowing). It also has the 3-light mod and reverse override mod, but I don’t believe either of those extend beyond the headlight pod.

Any help is greatly appreciated – hopefully I can get this sorted out before the next snow fall!

Need help on your atv ?

Hey outlaws. I see this pop up from time to time ?, I just want to extend my help to anyone that is close to me ?, and has no mechanical skills at all when it comes to older model atvs ( or some newer ones ? ), if your willing to go on a road trip to me ?, ( and yes..i have had members in the past make the drive to me ! ), anyway, if you want to make a road trip, bring me your atv, put down a deposit ?, I will try my very best to fix your atv. I am not in this to make a large profit by any means !. I do this as a hobby, and I try my best to help everyone on here, and anyone that wants to learn, to save cash by doing it themselves ?, soooo..with that being said, hit me up, tell me what year/make/full model you have ?, and then we can talk about what kinda cash you will need to spend for parts, and my very low small fee of my labor. I do not charge anywhere near what a dealership will charge you !!, as I said..i do this as a hobby, I LOVE WRENCHING !..LOL. not long ago, I had a returning member bring me his trx420 rancher, his starter was toasted, we sat down, I showed him what the starters cost ( both ebay and oem from Honda ), he handed me the cash to buy the starter, within a weeks time, I had his starter in, installed it, and called him to tell him it was done, and ready to ride. he was very happy. and yes, I tore his starter out while he watched, we both seen the damage BEFORE we purchased anything !. I can’t promise you anything when it comes to tearing atvs down ?, as we all should know ?..NO ONE KNOWS WHAT ALL IS DAMAGED…UNTIL YOU TEAR IT DOWN ?, sooo..don’t be shocked if it gets costly or not ?, even I can’t know this until I start tearing it down, and find something else damaged inside the motor ?. just giving you a heads up, that’s all. if you want, you can hang around, and watch, learn, while I tear into it :-). I am only posting this for the owners that don’t know a dang thing about working on atvs ?, and they want to learn, and save some hard earned money. soo..there you have it, if ya need help ?, want to save some cash, have the time for a road trip ?, hit me up, I would be more than happy to help ya out :-).

Anti-Freeze

I own a 2014 sportsman 570 efi. The book states you need to use 60/40 Premix Polaris Anti-freeze Ref # 2871534. I’ve looked all over for the product; online and a few dealers. Is Polaris not making this product?? Is there a new reference number for this year for the Polaris 60/40 premix?

Valvoline ATV Vs. Valvoline Motorcycle oil—Tip

Was in my usual state of brain only partly in gear at the auto parts buying oil for my Griz. Bought three quarts, but when I got home, I discovered that I had bought two quarts of ATV and one quart of Valvoline Motorcycle oil. The cans are identical if you don’t read the label. Being out of town, I called Valvoline. Engineer stated that the Motorcycle Valvoline would work fine in the ATV, but that ATV oil is not recommended for motorcycles because motorcycle engines rev much higher and so Valvoline puts in more anti-foaming agent. Just sayin.
