When plowing snow and using the winch a lot, after about an hour or so, the battery light flashes, and the speedometer flashes also. It is a good battery, so I am thinking voltage regulator. I can’t find one, does the 2005 not have one, and just uses the ECM to control the voltage?
I have had my 2013 sportsman 500 H.O since new and this thing even new will not start in the cold. Seems anything below -15c and not a chance. battery is good gas is good is there something i am missing. Full choke -20c will turn over all day and not fire. warms up full choke no problem. If anyone else has had this or knows of a fix for this i would be very grateful im getting very frustrated. thanks for your imput
I have had this 4wheeler since new in 2013, the original battery last until about 6 months ago when the battery light started blinking and then wouldn’t start. I got a new battery 4 months ago, and it sat for about 2 months and wouldn’t start. I had a 24 inch light bar that was wired to the battery, but I had the switch and everything unplugged. It sat up for a long time with the light bar connected on the old battery and never had a problem. I removed the light bar charged it up, and now everytime I turn the headlights on the battery light comes on and blinks regardless of RPM. The battery tested good, so I am thinking it’s either the stator or the voltage regulator. Where is the voltage regulator located on these rigs? I can’t seem to find it.

Hello everyone. Im Dustin, from Louisiana, and I am the proud owner of a new (to me) 2008 Honda Rancher 420 TRX420FM. I hope to be able to bring as much to the site (given time) that I am able to take away from it.
Was riding around in 2 wheel drive on creek and went up a couple small hills and leveled off. All of a sudden differential light starts flashing and emblem on the screen was flashing too and engine started sputtering. Had to put in 4 Wheel drive and lock in differential before I could go without engine sputter. Shut it off later and restarted and drove in 2 wheel for a bit and started up slight incline and it started doing the same thing as before. Any ideas on fixing this problem. A little tiring having to drive around with differential locked in.
So I just bought my 5 year old son a 2002 ds 90. He feel in love with it and is a real natural. After a few times out started to notice once the machine got warmed up it would loose its power and then eventually shut right down. After sometime it would fire back up and then do the same. Had rings and head gasket done but the problem is still there. I’m stumped

Ok heres the scoop. Bought a 2010 sportsman 850xp about a month ago, has 350 miles and about 75 hrs on it. Person I bought it from mainly used it for plowing and around the house. Replaced the battery as it was bad and she ran good for a few days doing some trail riding for about 5 hrs a day. As I was riding the backlight for the display would sometimes cut out and back on and also the battery light would go on and off here and there but she still ran great. One day forgot to hook the battery tender on it and the next day I just got click click click and the battery was pretty drained just from one day. Charged everything up and Took it out for a spin today and was running great but then the backlight started goin on and off a bit and the battery light popped on again. continued riding for about 10 mins and saw smoke coming from under the front rack figured it was just some steam from the water we were riding thru since no overheating lights came on then realized it wasn’t . Before I could stop the machine it just cut out and died there was no display or anything. Took the front rack off and there was like smoke pissing out the sides of the battery and the battery was super hot. After that couldn’t turn the key and get any display just nothing. Figured the battery was fried so towed it back to the house took battery out and got a replacement. Also did a little looking into the fuses and saw the 10 unswitch fuse was burnt out so figured that’s why the display stopped working and what not. After doing some research it seems to me that it could be the voltage regulator causing my issues. I didn’t wanna hook anything back up without figuring the real problem of the backlight going out and the battery light keep coming on didn’t wanna fry anything. Basically just asking if you guys think its the voltage regulator causing the issues.
