New Owner 2017 Maverick Max DPS

Proud new owner and anxious to ride!

I’ve been doing some reading and it appears there can be issues with the clutch belt burning up/falling apart. In fact, I was close to purchasing a 2016 Maverick Max RS which was a dealer demo. It had about 300 miles on it. The dealer had taken it out to demo for a potential buyer and I guess they didn’t warm it up properly (we’ve had snow and low temperatures here) and the clutch belt broke and the dealer had to redo the whole clutch housing/assembly.

I’ve read: 1) Use Low gear if your speed is under 25-30mph and 2) let it warm up properly. Any other recommendations about the clutch or in general?

Front end slipping

Hey folks….I have a 1992 Honda 300 fourtrax. When plowing under load, every 5 – 10 ft., the front driveshaft seems to jump a tooth or spline. Just starting doing this and wondering if I’ll get the winter out of it and what it could be. It seems to be sliding forward and back when it takes this jump or slip. Any thoughts? Thanks

How do YOU trail ride?

Hi all,

Figured I’d start a thread about one of my favorite things to do on my new ATV. Trail Ride.

Post how you like to trail ride, in what terrain, and any tips, tricks, or tools you use. (This is by no means limited to riding pre-cleared trails, any riding in the woods/country applies)

Personally, I love making my own trail through woods. If it’s not covered with thorns 4 feet high, I like going through it, running over small trees, and clearing a new path.

I haven’t had my ATV long enough to do this a lot but I think a machete would be a vital tool for this.

Plow Chains

I purchased a 2006 Sportsman 800 this past summer. I have thoroughly enjoyed running the hills of WV with it. My main purpose for it is to plow my driveway in the winter. My driveway is part asphalt and part concrete. I live on top of a hill and my driveway is 1/4 mile long. The grade is 12-13%. I have heard that ATVs do well without chains, but my concern is the steepness of the hill. Should I invest in chains or not?

defender,viking,ranger,teryx???

Too many choices out there for a good sxs that can haul the gear but also be used for hunting and fun trail riding. I’m not a fan of the low bucket seat racey units ( that also can’t haul bugger all)

Anyone here had the defender for long enough to put a bunch of miles on it and if so any problems and how would it compare to the other utility/sport units?
Thanks!

09 Start Issue

Hi. I have had my 09 700 since new and never a problem with starting. The other day I went for a short ride and then shut down the engine. Went to start it a few minutes later and the engine would not turn over at all. Just a click from the relay. The starter did not make any sound at all. It felt as if the engine or starter was stuck somehow. I kept trying over and over but the same thing, wouldn’t turn over.

I know for sure the battery is fine. I checked the battery wires and they were pretty hot after trying to start the engine so many times.

Anyway, I towed the bike in gear a little and I think it must have turned the engine just that little bit to get it over a "tight spot". It then started when I tried again and has started fine since.

Would anyone know the cause of the engine or starter getting stuck like this and how do I stop it happening again?

Thanks..
