new to forum

hello yall im new here and new to owning a honda.

ive been riding for close to 20 years in the hills of West Virginia and ive recently been gifted an 86 TRX 250 from a good buddy of mine. it came with the house he bought and its been a lawn orniment for as long as we can remember.

the quad came with no keys but a title. after some tinkering we finally got this beast running. but being new to hondas i have no idea about a couple things about it.

1st off, it has no battery. i havent got the slightest on where it could possibly fit from the factory. other forums said under the seat behind the air box, some said underneith the rear fenders. Unfortunitly, no dice.

2nd, the front "drivers side" wheel has a bad shake. im 99% sire its not the tie rod. from the looks of things it looks like there is a bushing in the steering knuckle where it is loose. is that a possible outcome for the problem?

thanks in advance fellas and ladies

Rear axle play 400ex

I have an extremely (so i would think) simple question yet hours or trial and error and research has still not yielded an answer. On my 2001 400ex there is about a quarter inch of play side to side between my swingarm and axle. How do i eliminate this play? I have tried tightening the axle nut (rotating clockwise ) and the luck nut was backed off so thats not an issue. I can post pictures for clarification if need be.

Electrical Gremlins!

Hey guys last few rides I’ve gone out I started seeing my battery light coming on. The machine is a 2006 Sportsman 500efi. Clearly some where along the line I have a charging issue.

To begin I used a multimeter to check the voltage on my battery at idle and its around 13.2-13.6. As I revved the ending up while still checking the voltage, it drops down to 7-8v.

To me it sounds like my machine the past few rides had been running solely off the battery to a point, and is not being charged.

What should be my next step? My thoughts were stator, but I’d like to hear more about things I’m unfamiliar with as well like; rectifier, regulator ect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello from Michigan, I am looking for some help on a 1996 425 magnum 4×4
I picked up. It was sitting in a barn for a few years. It only has 400 miles
on it. Took some time to get it running. It ran good at low speed but missed
and back-fired when I tried to give it more gas. Thought it was a dirty carb.
Took the carb off and cleaned it. replaced spark plug. Checked valve
clearance. Checked cam. Compression is 120 psi. Put carb back on and it
started right up but it back-fired out of the carb as soon as I gave it any
gas. This was with the air cleaner box off. Put the air box on and it runs better but seems to bog out at higher rpm. Also having trouble getting the choke
and throttle cables adjusted right. Any ideas what I am missing? Thanks for any help you can give me.
