Getting coolant level correct: 06 Kodiak 450

As mechanical as I generally consider myself, I still seem to have issues understanding cooling systems with remote expansion tanks – anyway…

06 Kodiak 450: flushed the cooling system, refilled the radiator with premix, set the expansion tank level to the full mark, and took her for a short spin down the road and back to warm her up a little. Let her cool a few minutes, and pulled the radiator cap.

Room for more coolant, so topped of the radiator, closed her up, went for a spin again, and now, while the radiator still shows it needs some more coolant, the expansion tank is overfull.

Am I supposed to ignore the air-space in the radiator, and only go by the level of coolant in the expansion tank???

06 450 oil strainer bolt stuck – ideas?

Servicing the farm 06 Kodiak 450, with service manual PDF… Manual says to remove the oil strainer with oil change – problem: cover bolt is really tight, and putting a strong arm to the wrench only seems to cause the socket to wedge and stick on the bolt, as if the bolt head is damaged.

For the short: I went ahead and changed the oil and filter without cleaning the strainer, as we need her back in service, but for the next time, what tricks might I try to get the strainer out?

The allen headed bolt next to it is not some sort of a keeper, is it?

The whole job makes me wonder if the outfit that’s been servicing it uses a torque wrench, or just gets things "really tight". Lug nuts all loosened with a long breaker-bar and a ‘bang’.

Hello from Western Pa

Hey all! Just introducing myself. I’m from Butler County, Pennsylvania. We bought a 2004 Polaris Predator 50th Anniversary Edition (Blue/Gold w/silver) back in November. Let me just say that it is an awesome machine. Love riding it (can’t currently as I am 7 months pregnant and it’s out of commission, anyone know someone good with electrical?)

86 Trx 350 fourtrax 4×4 won’t pull

Okay, this has been a major project, I had to replace the timing chain, jug, piston and rings. I finally got the bike running after replacing the cdi box and now the dang thing won’t pull…. I’ve had several of these bikes and this isn’t the 1st build I’ve done. When using the foot shifter it feels and sounds like it is changing gears, it even will jerk the bike a bit when going from neutral to 1st but it will not pull at all ????? It will also roll in gear foward and backward.. and yes the driveshafts are installed and not broken

2001 Grizzly 600 Wet Clutch Noise

Recently had power issues with my Grizzly 600. Found out the wet clutch seal was broken and some oil had leaked coating the CVT belt. Further in the mechanic discovered worn out clutch pads. Replaced the following:

1. Oneway bearing
2. 2 other bearings
3. weights on primary clutch cvt
4. cvt belt
5. clutch pads
6. all gaskets and seals
7. oil

Now there is a noise coming from this area. It goes away once you increase the rpm to a certain point both in neutral or moving. It comes back on the way back to idle and I can "feel" whatever is "rubbing" at the end. The noise goes up in pitch on acceleration and lower on deceleration. It seems something is rubbing that shouldn’t be. I took it back to the mechanic which is when he replaced the one way bearing thinking that was the issue. He also replaced 2 other bearings. The issue is still there.

Any ideas? Could a worn clutch housing cause this? Do the clutch pads just need to "break in"?

Not sure I want to take it back to this shop again.

New Guy from PA

Hello,

Just upgraded from a prairie 650 to a 2007 Yamaha Grizzly EPS, man what a nice riding machine. Coming from always having a solid rear axle to IRS with EPS is amazing. Now I just gotta get the bugs worked out of this grizzly and hopefully she will treat me well into the future! I look forward to being part of this forum.

Thanks
