1985 Fourtrax 250 seat issues

Hello all, Its been 6 months since I was logged on but I need your collective help with a really nice find here in the Denver area. Last year I bought a super low use 85 Four trax 250 and I just started to get her all gussied up again. Previous owners son fiddled with the timing chain tensioner and the resulting bent intake valve caused him to park it in the garage for 25yrs. I bought it with more then have of the tread remaining on the original tires so you can imagine how little time this little gem actually has.

Anyway I just finished installing a new seat cover and foam kit from Saddlemen and its very nice BTW however the front of the seat where it touches the tank is gapped pretty good and I cant seam to make it lay like it should. It was like this with the original cover and I figured the heat on years had caused it to shrink and turn upward but even after I warmed the seat pan and reformed it to proper positioning it curled back up again with the new seat cover installation. Any experience and or suggestions?

1996 Sportsman 400l clutch kit

i have a 96 sportsman 400 two stroke that is my next protect. i am making it into a mud machine and need to set it up with some good clutching and maybe gearing.
i’m going to run 27" mega mayhem, full custom snorkels, lift kit, 34mm mikuni carb, stock motor, aftermarket uni air filter, reeds, later down the road hoping to push it to a 440cc and full exhaust. any suggestions would be awesome.

ACE tipped over 3 times

So a buddy of mine got his wife an ACE last year. To date it has been on its side at least 3 times. To his wife’s credit, all by other people. I didn’t witness any of the tip overs, but I know one involved swerving to miss a rock or something and going up on the lip of a trail at low speed. I know it was low speed cause my wife was driving it at the time. She wouldn’t hardly go over 10 mph at the time. So anyways, the other two times may have involved higher speeds, but I don’ think they were excessive, just turning at speed. From what I was told, his 850 XP wouldn’t have had an issue making the turn. Granted, you can shift your weight on a quad, unlike in the ACE. I’ve driven it and it kind of has a feel to it that you need to be in tune with to run it at higher speeds and turn in corners and such in my opinion. Best to be in 2wd. I’ve driven it like a rally a car on some tighter trails with no issues. I’m not bashing the ACE, but I am curious if anyone else has had issues and what you have done to combat it since they are pretty liberal about letting others drive their ATVs, so just looking for some ideas on making it more stable. My suggestion to him has been to order after market rims to get the tires out a little wider and increase the base stance. He’s also looking at buying the tires I am pulling off my 570 touring. They are heavier than the stock carlises that are on it now by several pounds. Figure this may help a little too, but may also increase traction so it may be a wash. There are no top add-ons like a roof or anything like that to add top weight.

Appreciate any advise I can pass along to him.

sportsman 570 not starting

new plug, has spark, has fuel. it was acting really funny last week it would run one day and the next day it wouldn’t. I went to start it the past 2 days nothing. I took the gas tank off, cleaned it out and checked my fuel filter, still nothing. I don’t understand what is happening. it will only run with my hand over the intake could it not be getting proper pressure to the injector? please help

Snowmobile oil

Any concerns in using Polaris Premium Blue 2 cycle synthetic snowmobile oil in my Sportsman 450 (2007)? I live in arctic Canada…….temps in the spring/summer go from -25 to +10 C…or about -5 to 50F give or take.

I bought the atv 2nd hand…so I don’t know what oils have been through it.
