my kodiak 450 will not start

A couple of months ago I started my 2005 kodiak 450 to help me with cleaning snow out of my driveway. It was cold so I had to start it with the choke on. I was shoveling snow while it was warming up when I heard it start sputtering. I couldn’t make it back in time and it eventually fouled the plug and I couldn’t get it restarted. I tried for a while until it eventually backfired and I left it alone. I didn’t attempt to start it again for a couple of months. I replaced the spark plug, drained and replaced the fuel, but I still cant get it to start. It has spark and when I open the drain on the bottom of the carburetor fuel runs so I assume it is getting fuel. I even tried starter fluid and nothing!

new outlander 570 engine noise question

Hello all just bought a 16 outlander 570 and have about 11 hours on it now. I changed all the fluids at 10 hours and have some questions. I have the typical clutch engagement clunk but was wondering about engine noise. I’d say about 3500-4000 rpms probably about half the time I get a ticking knocking noise in acceleration. Sounds like it coming from the right side of the engine. Is this normal? Could it just be older gas? I get my gas from our farm tank. Might be 3-4 months old. I do get kind of a thump from the clutch side at idle which I’m assuming is the belt flexing. Could the belt clutch noise just be resonating? Is this an item of concern? Thanks in advance!

400EX carburetor problems

Question for anyone who can answer it. We have a 2000 400EX that we have been working on for the past 2 months. We have had everything from a weak spark to a stretched timing chain. All of that has been fixed. During the troubleshooting process we rebuilt the carburetor and now it is very hard to get running, and when it does finally fire and start, half throttle is needed to keep it going. Sometimes it will smooth out and you can ease off on the throttle, but when this happens it will pick up RPM and just die almost like it is starving for gas. It is almost like someone turned the petcock off. I have taken the carburetor apart and am soaking in lacquer thinner right now. Where should I focus my attention on to fix this problem? Thanks in advance. Also, I did buy a carburetor rebuild kit and installed new parts.

Project 5th wheel rehab

Cold and rainey, and watching my 5yr old while wife/daughter out of town for softball tourney that got rained out yesterday and just got word cancelled today, so decided to make post of project rehab.

Talked about finding a camper to park at a campground central to where we’ve been going 2hrs south every weekend since February to help save some money vs the $800-1200 additional monthly funds for hotels and eating out every weekend every month. Buddy called me about this 2005 coachman spirit of america a gal that just broke up with boyfriend d was selling. She came into money, went nuts, now single and $100k in debt so fire sale everything. Said she wanted $4-5,000. Wife and I drove out to look at it, her thing, "as long as it don’t stink"

Gal bought it last spring for $11,000 from dealer (paperwork still in rv), used it 1 time, then parked it on mom’s farm, next to bean feild, left all dry good food and 2 bags of dog food inside, along with 2 huge bags of mothball that had spelled out and crushed into carpet and walked on/ground in. To say it about knocked you out opening the door is understatement..bad as I’ve ever smelled. She said no, and ran to truck lol. Buddy called to see what I thought, told him $3600 is most I’d give, got to buy it right to make it right vs just buying one for what I may end up putting back into it. Long story short, she took it and buddy towed it home for me.

Taming Trail Boss 330

My wife wanted an ATV for pulling a small trailer in the woods to pick up fallen wood and branches and trail maintenance. I was able to get her a 2010 Trail Boss 330. It was a little too aggressive for good control at low speeds. It tended to take off too fast in forward and reverse. So, after replacing the rear caliper and brake line, rebuilding the foot brake master and replacing the starter, I dropped a tooth on the front sprocket to 10T and went up 2 teeth on the back to 42T and replaced the chain. This helped quite a bit. Then, thanks to very kind advice from Mike at EPIperformance, I dropped one spring rate in the primary clutch to blue/green. (they don’t even offer the spring in their product line) This did the trick. The Trail Boss clutch now engages at a lower RPM and combined with the lower gear ratio, it is much friendlier and controllable at low speeds in forward and reverse.

Who’s running Ricochet skid plates?

I’ve been running Ricochet’s since the 80’s and have had them on every machine since. I was wondering who else here is running Ricochet skid plates on their Yamaha Grizzly, Kodiak, or whatever.

I love the fit, finish, toughness, ease of installation, and that just knowing my machine is well protected.

Can’t dismiss that bling factor too! :moshiz:
