Hi Everyone! Just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I purchased a 2015 Can Am outlander XT 800 Max back in March and have been loving every second of it. I had never stepped foot on an ATV until then so I am extremely new to the sport. Ever since I was a kid I can always remember wanting one and I finally made it happen.
I was all set on buying a 500cc L model until I found this one on craigslist with only 14 hours on it. The guy just didn’t use it and had more toys than I could count. I couldn’t pass on the price so I went for it. So far it’s been a awesome time and a big learning experience.
So I have owned over 25 vehicles in my life, and every one I did an oil change on every 2500-3k miles.
No matter how new or what they were, synthetic or conventional, they would be close to ‘black’ around that mileage.
I bought this 1997 4Runner, and I’ve been lazy and she is at about 4700K miles and the oil level dropped about a 1/4 quart but the oil is clean as can be…looks like the dipstick was dipped in maple syrup. As if I was at 1500 miles.
I use Fram Extra guard on all my rides…
My question is should I change it every 3k, or as it gets dirty. I’m not a fluid expert but does conventional break down regardless of cleanliness?
At this point, it seems 10k would make it like the 3k I did on all my vehicles.
2009 sportsman 800 ho,
is there supposed to be a zirc in one of these holes on the U joint (front) it does not look like the zircs on A arms. Attachment 43578
on the back one there’s just 2 holes and no zirc, is it normal to have this much space? it clunks a little sometimes when i start going forward after reverse.
Im finally ready to start a lift!! Ill just be working on the swing arm for now, but its a start. I plan on doing the swingarm first and once its 99% complete ill start on the a arms (trying to cut down on "down time ")
If you’re real old, or have a short attention span, this thread may not be for you. Im not in a rush and may not get finished before you get bored, ,,,,,, or die. Lol. First things first, if you want correct measurements every time you gotta build a jig. Im wanting to make my jig adjustable so I can do 2.5" stretch and 6 and 8 inch lifts. So heres the first step. Build a jig….
I have a 2005 sportsman 500 HO, i got it stuck one day and hooked the winch up to a tree and after about 20 seconds the battery light started flashing and the winch would only make a clicking noise. I ended up getting unstuck and went home and charged the battery after that the rpms on the speedometer would only work when you would pin the throttle and if you didn’t they would stay at 0 rpms. And the battery light would begin flashing. I could go out riding for hours and then shut it off and try to start it again and it would be dead. I have bought and installed a new ECM,battery, and CDI and the problem is still occurring, please let me know if any one has any ideas what may be wrong with my atv.
One of the guys shows up on a beat up 01-04 Rubicon. Busted meter, no idea on miles or history. Anyhow, we didn’t even get 1/2 mile from the house and he’s dead in the water. Thing died and wouldn’t restart without the choke on, then it spit and sputtered and would die.
I think "trash in carb" and tried taking off the air cleaner, revving it up and then slapping my hand over the intake hoping it would dislodge whatever was clogging it up, but didn’t help, and my hand came away covered in gas.
We dragged it back to the house, and I put him on my Foreman, and I rode one of the Arctic Cat 300’s my father in law dropped off for me to fix.
Fast forward to yesterday. I went to move the Rubicon to the shop and it fired right up, ran like a top. I drove it up and down the street a few times and it didn’t miss a lick.
Any ideas on what might have caused this? I initially thought trash in carb and told the guy I’d clean it for him. Now I’m wondering what else it could be? It would run with the choke on and a lot of throttle feathering, but would die if you weren’t working the throttle with the choke on. Did the trash dislodge itself in the carb, or is there something else that could cause this? I would think if it were electrical/spark related it wouldn’t have run with the choke on.
Had a good ride. Had heavy rains that morning so lots of mud and water to play in. The little Arctic Cat 300 with slicks on it was entertaining, but I think I’ll stick to my Foreman.
I have a bike with some long-discontinued exhaust and have been looking at the CNC tips for the Grizzly and other ATVs. I’m hoping someone can tell me what the diameter of the flange with the holes is. I can adapt the screw spacing, but need something around 3.875"-4"OD and am hoping these are close.
