Took the HL through its first serious hole a couple weekends ago and it failed miserably. Bad news, its been in the shop since. I finally get to pick it up tomorrow. After two broken winches and a skid steer almost tipping over to get me out, the verdict is a broken front axle and I shredded the belt. IMO for it being a "mud machine" and couldn’t handle the stress of one mud hole I am not a pleased customer.
Bought a 2014 700 eps with 50 hours on it a couple weeks ago. Great quad, I added a big gun Eco exhaust and 1" wheel spacers all around. Sounds goods and rides nice, also like the meaner stance. Probably will get a programmer and add a k&n. Also has a warn 2000 on her.
Bought a 08 sportsman about a week ago. The last owner must have used it for mudding becuase I am finding evidence of water being in the recoil side cover and they must have had issues with the starter, as there is hammer marks all over it and actually punctured a hole in the rear case of it. So I pulled the starter to tear it apart and see if I could figure out what the problem was. Cleaned it out real good and lubed up the connections now it works. BUT I happen to believe it is spinning in the wrong direction… Is this even possible? With the side cover off I cranked the engine quick and the bendix is spinning clockwise, which in turn if this is right it would be making engine run counterclockwise. HELP. is it possible to get the starter spinning the correct way again?

Having a difficult time inserting new double bearing into the knuckle on 95 300 FW. I did the other side over the winter and all I did was put bearing in freezer for a few hours and it slid right in. Now getting to the other side this week and NO LUCK AT ALL. I froze bearing overnight and even heated knuckle with a heat gun and the bearing just won’t go in. I destroyed it trying to hammer it in. At least it will still work as a tool to get the next one in if needed.
So my question is…what now? Did I not heat up the knuckle enough? How much heat does it take? Should I remove the whole knuckle and try that way (really don’t want to deal with ball joints!)
Im not sure where the best place for this thread is, but anyone interested in cleaning up and old bike needs to try this. It is slightly acidic and will cut the nastiest mud and red dirt stains on aluminum and steel.
Ive been using it for several years to clean ATV’s and golf carts as well as aluminum blocks and engine cases with amazing results.
The same thing can be acheived by dilluting Muriatic acid but this stuff can be bought at most local auto parts stores and is less volatile.
I usually spray it on and hit it with a pressure washer. Its best to do it on a cold bike and try not to let it sit for longer than a minute. If you leave it on too long it will oxidize aluminum and make it dark grey but it truly works wonders! My buddies all swear by it now and call it liquid gold!
I will try to get some before and after pics, but the product should speak for itself if you try it!
It has to be etching mag cleaner, the other products do not work nearly as well. My old aluminum factory wheels look brand new after 13 years!
