2001 foreman power

I have a 2001 foreman 450, with 29.5 terminators and with the 14% gear reduction it spins them decently. I’m fixing to put 30 mudder in laws and seeing that there a little heavier would like to know what would be my best option to spin them with no problem whether on the street or bumper deep in the thick stuff. A bigger gear reduction ( if so what size would be best) or boring the motor or both? Thanks

05 Rubicon Complete Overhaul

Hey Guys,
I am doing a complete rebuild/overhaul of an 05 rubicon. I have rebuilt the engine from crank up, new oil pump, new seals/o-rings, 2 rough bearings, new rings, new water pump, and gaskets. I have it back in the frame and trying to start it. I have cleaned the carb and blown all the jets out, clean as a whistle.

Some of the problems I am having now is that with the plug in, the starter has a very hard time turning over. Sometimes it will catch its stride and turn over for 10-15 seconds and other times it wont even touch it. I am jumping it from a parallel battery (diesel truck) so I know it is getting more than enough cranking amps. When the starter finally does turn it over, it is trying to fire, but won’t keep running without the starter. The plug has a yellow spark, and I am going to replace that, but I don’t think that is my main problem.

Another symptom is that when the starter is turning it over, and I add some choke, the engine will bog down and completely stop the starter. I’m not real sure why this would be happening.

I thought the timing might be 180 out, but I took a slo-mode video with the plug out and can see the spark with both valves closed. If it was 180 out, then the spark should be going just before the intake valves open. So I don’t think this is the issue.

Any ideas? I am going to replace the spark plug, make sure the muffler isn’t clogged and adjust the valve clearances. But after this, I am out of ideas.

Thanks in advance. I plan to post some pics in a bit.

No Spark unless I disconnect CDI box ground

Someone stole all of my quads and left my 2000 Trail Blazer 250 behind, but that one had all kinds of wires cut under the "hood", like they were trying to hot wire it. I spliced all the wires back together, matching colors. I did have to add about 2" of wire between each cut to get them back together. I was tired of pulling it while trying to get it running again so I replaced the starter and was getting no spark. Disconnected black wire from CDI box and it fired right up! So now we’re getting somewhere.
It was drivable without the CDI box hooked up, but I couldn’t shut it off without reconnecting that wire. So something there is killing the spark even though the key and run switches are on. My question is where do I start? I’ve verified that all the wire colors match up so it SHOULD be wired correctly. Is there any sort of test I can do to narrow it down some more?

If all else fails, is it a big deal if I wired my own "kill" switch? That would be a last resort, but if that works I’d do that over replacing expensive parts.

Thanks!

New from Ontario Canada

Hey guys and gals,I have a 02 660 Grizz that I have had since new,had to put a rad and muffler on it this year and 1x over mud lites a few years back.As you all know the hitches on them are junk,so today I ordered a receiver hitch from 2Rracing I believe, and after placing the order I hit the return to homepage and was redirected to an "the website may be for sale" site. I am just wondering if my order was good or will I get scammed????

Thanks
Looks like a great site here,I’ll have to look around some more

Couple of questions about Carlisle tire

I just bought a brand new set of AT 489 Carlisle tires and rims ( fronts 25x8x12, backs 25x10x12 ) for $500. The deal came out of no where and didn’t have time to check up on tires pricing or quality.
For the most part looks like they are a decent tire with with 4 or 5 stars in reviews. There’s the odd one where it gets a 1 star. The 1 stars reviews (At least when the majority are good reviews) I usually find its a person who doesn’t score anything well. Or there going from a high end product to a lower end one. Then compare it to the high end product rather then just reviewing the actual product

Anyways just hopping for some Info.

Thanks

Model Selection

Hi Folks
I was planning purchasing an ATV to hall the watercraft around at he lake and to do some chores and some trial riding and a little bit of snow clean -up in the winter at the house. I wanted to do this last year but it was not in the budget. Now I am ready to go.
I have been looking at a manual shift but getting that model with power steering looks like i have to go to a Deluxe model in the Rubicon now.

Forum members know there Honda’s and there ATV’s.Is the Rubicon the right choice here or should i go with the Foreman 500? Is there a difference in gearing are they powerful enough?
My brother-in law has an older Rubicon 500 and says i should have no problem with power with either choice.

Since I am launching the water craft in water am i going to have more issue with the Foreman rear brake in the future versus the Rubicon?

From a trail perspective,I think the IRS is probably the way to go from a comfort point of view. But I know the Foreman would still get it done on the trail.

Am I over analyzing this ?
I plan to do buy in a few weeks. My family members recommend the Honda and friend owns a Yamaha dealership(LOL). The new Grizzly is nice but…I have 16 that wants to ride with his friends so I am wondering if the 700 is way too much bike for us when the 500 would get the job done. I like the idea of a manual transmission.

Opinions are welcomed
