Bought a 400, have a few questions

So I picked up this 400, ended up costing me a 28 pack of Budwieser ($41 here in Canada, insane) off my uncle. Needs some work but the price was right. Where is the VIN on this thing? I looked on the frame by the shifter and see a spot that looked like a tag used to be on there but it’s missing. But then I noticed some numbers on the plastic thing ontop the air box. Looks like it’s got a serial number and a date on it. This the VIN and build date? If so its a ’95. I know it started and ran good last year but it’s been sitting since because the shifter is all messed up.

So that leads me to my second question, the shifter wiggles around and won’t shift the transmission at all. It won’t move the two rods going to the transmission at all, so are parts available for that or is there a common part to wear out or deteriorate or break in there or anything else you can lead me too?

Needs tires and a few other things but I’m going to get it going and run if for a while before I start spending big money. If it doesn’t pan out I’m sure I can pawn it off and not loose any money on it. Anything else I should know about this thing?

Upgrading clutches on 2015 outlander 800xt

I just put on 28" silverbacks and would like to upgrade the stock clutches to aftermarket primary and secondary. (Likely qsc and stm combo) If I put on larger tires in the future ’30s’ will I have to upgrade them again or can I cheat the 28s? And get the clutches for 30s? How badly does that mess things up.
Thanks!

Finally bought me a four wheelin device

Picked up a Xplorer 400 for a case of beer (40 freakin bucks here in Canada for a 28 of Budwieser, still a darn good deal for the Xplorer though). She’s rough but I have revived a lot bigger heaps of junk, but this will be the first ATV of any kind although I seem to have an ongoing job keeping my John Deere Gaytor going. It’s going to be mostly for play but it’ll have to earn its keep here too. I’m a bit north of London Ontario if anyone’s close too.

400ex clutch issue

Hey everyone. I have an 05 400ex and I set the rear end up on a crate so the tires were off the ground. I started the bike and let it run for a minute then pulled the clutch and kicked it into 1st. With the clutch still pulled in the tired immediately started spinning like I didn’t have the clutch pulled in. Trying to figure what could be wrong before I tear into it. Is the clutch completely shot? Is it the basket, plates, springs? I’m pretty mechanical and know my way around bikes. Any help and knowledge would be great everyone! Thanks.
