I don’t have an ATV at this point, and never have ridden one, much less owned one.
Tomorrow I’m going to look at a 2016 Rancher 420 that’s already fitted with a snow blade and winch. It’s my understanding that the machine has very little use on it. Right now, it’s in a storage unit. If I buy the machine, it will be used mainly around our acreage for snow removal duty, and other work tasks. I don’t anticipate any significant trail riding or other activities.
One of the things that I can see a real need for is trailer pulling capacity. I did a search on the forum and found some posts that indicate the machine is capable of being fitted with a trailer hitch, IF it has a solid rear axle. Are there any trailer towing options for the independent rear suspension?
I don’t really know much more about the machine than this right now. The machine is being sold by a family friend who needs out from under it. My wife seems to be pushing me to buy it to help out the friend; she also wants me to get a better snow removal solution for our 500 foot driveway. A utility tractor is too much; my two-stage snow thrower isn’t enough.
Any pointers to look out for would be appreciated. Similarly, if any of you have pics of how you’ve outfitted your machines with trailer hitch capability would be a real help.

Hey guys! I am making the Switch from SXS to ATV. I am ready to pull the trigger in the next few days. A guy locally has a 2014 outlander 800 xt package. It has 29 miles, yes 29 miles lol. a brand new 60 inch yellow can am plow. the whole thing is stock except the plow. I can get it for 8k. Is that worth jumping on? or should I try to get it lower? he had it listed for 9k for a month. I don’t think he really needs to sell it asap.
Does anyone know if older clutches cover/cases from 2013/2012 will fit on this model. I have had nothing but issues with water getting into the clutch and has actually damaged the clutch and Polaris is not willing to cover the repairs since the clutch got wet. I see older models have a better built inner seal(something other than a zip-tie holding it in place) I don’t want to buy another clutch if the bikes is going to continue having issues with water getting to the clutch.
I have a Haynes service manual (1st mistake), and it appears to have omitted the rear gearcase fluid replacement section. As much as I can figure it takes 5 oz of angle drive fluid. Can anybody direct me to the drain plug and fill hole? This is the first wrenching I am going to do on an ATV and appreciate any newbie info. Thanks. m.breen.
