I had my Quest 650 buried in the woods and hitched to my Log Arch holding a nice long Oak log when I got a call on my cell. In my haste, I left it there and walked out to attend to something, and left the ignition switch in the on position. More than one thing came up, I didn’t get back to the woods for a couple hours – and the battery was dead. Couldn’t get any of my other equip in there to jump it, so I borrowed a portable jump pack from a friend, and started it no problem. Finished up the day and parked my ATV in my shed. Next day when I went to start it again, it was dead again. Jumped it with the portable pack, then rolled into my garage where I have electric and put my charger on it at 2 Amp setting for about 6 hours. Started great, and started the next several times I needed it. Then it sat for about a week and it was dead again.
I had never had a problem with this battery before, including single digit mornings in the past 5 winters. So here are a few questions:
Do I need to charge it at 2 Amp longer, like over night?
Or, should I use the higher 10 Amp setting on my charger?
I guess I learned the charging system on this ATV is not up to recharging this battery in the short driving cycles I operat at.
It doesn’t look like I have access to add distilled water to the cells, and I can’t see the level in them as is.
Did I kill this battery for evermore?
And advice will be welcome, including telling me to give up and buy a new battery. I really am mostly impatient with this kind of problem, but would prefer to resurrect this one if possible.
In the mean time, I bought a portable jump pack that will save me from future borrowing requirements. It has worked fine on a camping trip over Father’s Day weekend with my son.
21 years after getting this bike , I am finally replacing the brakes. Front went fine, but one cylinder is stuck, but I can live with that
My issue is with the rear brakes. When I pulled the brake drum off, it looks as if oil has seeped into the drum (no wonder they didn’t work). I assume there is a seal gone bad between the differential & brake drum? Any pointer as to where to start looking ?
I have a quick question about the 2014 maverick xrs non dps , I take it the front diff visco lock is not qe. I plan to get the super atv power steering kit but thinking I will have issues with the front diff. I love the qe visco lock off my 2012 outlander 1000 xt. What’s everyone’s opinion ?
As title says, wondering where grease nipples are on my new Sportsman XP 1000 Touring ATV. How many are there? How often should I be greasing the machine under normal use. Also, I notice my suspension is squeeking. Is there a fix for that.
Thanks.
I have a 2008 sportsman 500 ho that I bought used with very low hours and mileage. Even with the low hours and miles it appears the machine has never been greased since I don’t see any grease nipples. Its my understanding that the machines come with locations for grease fittings and at the first greasing you have to install the nipples, which is common on other machines and equipment. Does this sound right to everyone else?
Previous owner cut the connector out and straight wired it and now I have 3 solid yellow wires I don’t know which one goes where. Does it really matter or what?
I’m looking for feedback on buying a used fan control unit for an 87 trx350d or not. I troubleshooted mine, fan came on ok and temp sensor switch checked out ok. I’m thinking of putting a switch inline and turn it on when engine feels hot.
I purchased a used 400ex a few weeks ago and it has a 416 big bore kit.
It also has a new edelbrock qwik silver carb. An atv shop has told me that the ATV is "running with 50% of the power it’s supposed to". They recommended I go back to the stock carb. What does everyone think? (They didn’t know about the big bore kit)
Also the main issue currently is my head cover screws are stripped. I bought heli coils but now I’m reading through out the forum about GT Thunder? What should I do?
In case I got the name of the screws wrong, I included a picture. It’s the little screws where a few are missing (the others are a bit loose)
Hi my names mike I just picked up a 02 trx300ex guy said it seemed to be stuck between gears. Anyways he has the right cover off and clutch all disassembled. I did some reading on here and found thst with the quad off and clutch not pulled you should be able to shift thru all the gears with possibly having to rock the quad back and forth. Now my confusion here is this….It will sometimes go thru all the gears sometimes only through two gears but if I reach over and turn the main shaft in any direction just a little bit(because the guy had it all torn down already) it will go through all of the gears no problem. So my question is does the procedure of seeing if it goes thru all the gears when it’s not running still work with the clutch and cover all disassembled cuz like I stated I can spin the shaft and it will shift thru every gear perfly or am I just an idiot because that shaft should not spin while it’s in gear and showing me I have a shaft stripped or something.
