First off, my machine is a 2015 570 Sportsman. It is the first ATV I have ever owned. Anyway, I decided I wanted to put a winch on the machine but having been recently laid-off from my job, I had to at least attempt to do it as cheaply as possible. Hench, I did not buy the Polaris set up.
Based on what I read here, I ordered the KFI mount (#100740) for my machine from Amazon. Next I went to the local Harbor Freight and purchased a Badlands 2500lb winch.
As I was installing the winch into the mount, I thought to myself that I didn’t like the cheap bolts that came with the winch. However, before I went to get some 8 grade fasteners, I wanted to check the fitment of everything. Well wouldn’t you know that the fairlead bolt holes do not line up with the KFI mount. So now I am scratching my head and wondering if I should A) take the 2500lb winch back and measure the distance of the bolts holes on the 3500lb winch to see it they are compatible, B) return the winch for a full refund and get another brand of winch, or C) attempt to drill new holes in the bracket that are correctly spaced for the fairlead that came with the winch? I guess another option would be buying a fairlead that is spaced correctly.
Oh the joys of owning a new machine and learning new things.
