About a month ago my older brother and i rode a pretty intense 120’ish mile in a day ride it was flat out balls to the wall tight mountain trail corner to corner white knuckle air flying fun day. One of them rides you dont find your self sitting down once but rather half way off the inside of the grizz trying to corner as sharp as you can by using your whole body to weight the inside of the turn, over-steering away and feathering the throttle all the way through sliding the ass through then mashing the throttle to the next turn only to do it all over again.. one of those good rides I know a few of you know what i’m talkin about!!
Anyways last weekend was about to head out for a ride around Cascade ID with a few friends I decided to give the grizz a good look over as the last ride certainly was one of the hardest rides i’ve ever pushed the grizz in the last 4 yrs "add power of the motor helped with that haha". I cleaned the air filter, greased the rear bushings checked for lose bolts and leaks Everything was good till i jacked up the front end and had a ton of play in the left front tire when wiggling it back and forth. The castle nut on the American Star MX-Pro tierods just about sheared the threads off the end.. I was pretty pissed :cussing: when i found it but quickly became very great-full that it didn’t fully come apart on the trail while landing a jump or carving one of them tight trails with a rather steep drop off on the left side when drifting hard on a right hand turn!! That could have easily killed me for how i was riding that day.. no doubt!!
So I found on there website that their strongest racing tierods come with some beefy heim joints instead of the ball joint type.. This is my second set of ends for the mx-pro rods that i’ve had needing replaced "only the outers have needed replacing inners are still in great shape" since i’ve put on the larger "heavier" 27 inch Growlers. I called Karen at American Star Racing and told her the story… She was a little shocked i think that i’ve been able to go through two sets of outer ends in about a year with the latest being replaced just this last January before i blew my motor. She definitely agreed that I would benefit by upgrading to there pro-x series tierods with the heavy duty 4130 chromoly teflon/kevlar lined Heim ends that are rated at 16,238 lbs.. unfortunately they dont have just the ends that will fit the mx-pro tierods. She then told me she’s willing to trade in my mx-pro’s which are about 2 yrs old with the two new inner rod ends that i have still in package from January and it will only cost me $56 to get into the better pro-x series with the heim joints.
I totally expected to have to pay $146 for the better rods/ends and was very surprised to hear her say that i could just send back my VERY used mx-pros for credit on the pro-x’s.. 🙂 Should have them in the next day or two for this weekends ride.
Just through i’d share a good customer service story from American Star Racing out of Utah. Great company IMO!! Its not the first time i’ve had to call them and not the first time they’ve helped me out over the phone and got me what i needed asap.
Sorry this is probably longer than it needed to be haha.. Hope everyone is doing well here on GC haven’t been on in a while!! :gcrules:
