I think I’ve managed to spin my head all the way around looking at tires, reading the forums and doing google searches. The videos below (none of which are mine) are all of the local park here in Eastern Iowa. I would say the other few we visit are all very similar, as it’s all Army Corps. Of Engineers flood control/river bottom ground that’s been turned into OHV parks. As such, they turn from hilly, sandy, clay tracks with fun rutted hill climbs to swampy, nasty, sandy, quad-swallowing mud (I lost a shoe once, it’s still under 18” of mud)
The RZR is my first SxS, I had Zillas on my renegade, which did well for the most part in all but the nastiest mud holes (see: lost shoe) but didn’t seem to do well side-hilling. With the GF onboard, our plan is to also hit places like H&M Trails, Winrock, Taylor Park 3-4x/year. They don’t need to EXCEL on rocks, but I don’t want to have to have two sets of tires, but I could keep the stockers if needed.
What I’m looking for is a tire that isn’t going to beat us up on the smooth trails and still let us have some fun on the dirt/clay climbs, not slide sideways off-camber, let me make a lap or two around the track, but, most importantly, isn’t going to make me steer around a moderate mud hole. We usually ride solo and there’s not always a tree around, so if I hit a hole, I want to be fairly confident.
I was all set on Bighorns, but the mud part kills me. In the 3rd video, he gets stuck in a pretty mild hole (he could have likely done more). So I figured I was looking for an M/T radial? Hah.
Open to Suggestions/Comments Please, but the following seem to be in the running:
All will be on 14” wheels, 28-30” tires and am willing to buy a Clutch Kit (Dalton/SLP)
– Terms (Everyone seems to say the run smooth?)
– Intimidators (Why get these if terms ride smooth?+Heavy)
– Outback Max
– Outlaw Radials
– Mud Rebel RT
– What else?
