After Market Turbo vs RZR Turbo 1000

I have a RZR 900 with a Boondocks turbo. I just purchased the new Turbo 1000. I want to leave my first impressions. My 900 suffers from not enough suspension for the speed. The turbo comes on very strong but definitely has a point where the power comes on very hard. With electronic waste gate I can select up to 20 PSI but I keep her in the 10 to 12 PSI range to preserve the engine. It’s fun to race and drive within the limits of the suspension.

The new 1000 has tons of potential. The suspension is amazing and the engine delivers tons of power in a very linear way. It is very driveable in Stock trim and should satisfy most riders that are just jumping into a turbo. I really enjoy my new machine. It’s fun and feels very stable. I think my 900 turbo is a bit faster but doesn’t handle it well. I’m torn about modifying the new bike because of reliability concerns. I suspect that with some custom tuning it would be faster than the 900. Knowing me an engine upgrade is in my future.

No knock on the factory turbo. In fact I love the total package. The suspension and handling is awesome. I can’t wait to get her out to Glamis where I can really take advantage of the suspension. I really want to see if I can run the whoops at the base of Oldsmobile at WOT and still feel like I’m in control.
