A Arm Mount Problems

Finally broke the 4,000 mile mark on my 1000 over the last weekend while riding out in South Dakota. Besides exhaust issues that were fixed with the HMF exhaust/tuner, it’s been a pretty much problem free machine.

A few months ago, I noticed slop/play in the front right tire, and it turned out that the lower a arm mount had rounded out a bit at the bolt, allowing it to move around. I had a set of the Cecco frame braces lying around, and luckily they took care of the issue (I only used one as the other wouldn’t fit – looks like Cecco updated design for the front end of the 15-16 after I had already bought a set for the front).

Now, after this weekend, I have a LOT of slop at both rear tires. I’ve narrowed down the slop on the right side to a wheel bearing – not bad, at least it lasted 4,000 miles.

The left side is due to an egged out upper a-arm mount. I can see the bolt moving when I move around the tire. Bushings won’t help me here, and neither will the Cecco rear frame brace unfortunately as that is for the lowers.

I’ve been thinking of welding in a washer, but does anybody have better ideas? I searched, and it seems like the RZR’s have a lot more trouble with this, as there are stepped washers made for them sold by RacerTech, but I can’t find anything for the Sportsman XP platform.

I want to take care of this soon I’m thinking, as all I can imagine is landing after a little bit of air and having the mount fail completely.

I have to say, I’m pretty impressed that the stock suspension held up this long after all the bad things I had heard about the XP platform. Stock bushings are still in pretty decent shape even. I ride pretty hard, but maintain it well, so I think that helps.

Any ideas besides welding in a washer? Has anybody else had this issue on their Sportsman?

Thanks!
