’96 Sportsman 400 Problem

I am new to the forum and own a ’96 Sportsman 400 2 stroke. I got it about a year ago and it had been sitting in a barn for 2-3 years. When I got it, it hardly ran and I figured the carburetor was the problem and ordered a new one. After lots of thinking and adjustments, I finally had it running decently but it didn’t last long.

Took it out on a little ride and didn’t run it too hard and drove it around the place for a day or two, I go to ride it the next morning and it wont start.

I tried fiddling with the carburetor some more but it didn’t help. Hasn’t started since. I took it apart down to the piston and figured it could’ve been the head gasket and also suspected rings after some info from a friend. I ordered new rings and gaskets but out of the three different ring size options, I chose the wrong one:tired:. Just ordered new rings after looking up piston size and the right ring size- hopefully(.50 mm oversize). Also ordered new reed valves.

Spark plug should be good and I should be getting fuel. Hoping the rings will give me compression but after reading up on the web, I wonder about the crankcase seals. Just looking for some other opinions, input, or information.
