96′ Fourtrax clutch noise

Hi Folks,

I’m new here but have been a big honda guy my whole life. I’ve always had an affinity for the 300 fourtrax since they were such a great machine. I’ll cut to the chase.

I have a barn find (96′ fourtrax 300) that I’ve been putting some money into getting it fixed up. I got a seat, muffler, etc… When I got it home I put gas in and charged the battery and it literally fires right up. Starts like brand new I cant believe it! Well I can cause its a Honda….Anywho

The problem: I installed new clutch discs as well as a "one way" bearing behind the centrifugal clutch. The bearing was probably fine but the clutch plates certainly were not. Now that I have that together and the new muffler on so it doesn’t sound its going to explode at any minute another noise has become apparent. I can only describe it as a "whirring" sound with a bit of rattle to it. It speeds up and slows down with the RPM’s. I give it the old screw driver on the ear test and it is definitely in the lower end and on the right side/side of break pedal. Sounds like it is coming from the centrifugal clutch and not the clutch with the discs. My guess is either something is rubbing from when I put it back together (don’t think this is it) OR the centrifugal clutch is out to lunch and I need a new one.

I thought I’d get some opinions before dropping another $100 in parts. Thanks in advance for your help. I’ll try to post a video with the noise.

Regards
