570 EPS first ride review

Finally had a chance to get out on the trails for 29 miles. My new atv is a 2016 Sportsman 570 EPS. For this ride I was using a set of older Sportsman Goodyear Rawhide tires 4psi on stock steel wheels. Sold the stock wheels and tires and bought a set of RZR 900s wheels with Dirt Commanders but they were not on for this ride. After I try them out on my RZR 800 I may put them back on the Sportsman 570. The seat is very comfortable, much better than the one on my old Scrambler 850. Engine braking is aggressive but I would rather have it than not. I do wish I had the ADC but did not flip for the SP model. Clutching is very good. High range seems geared lower than the 550 and 850s. Like everyone else says, the power is better than the 500s and 550s but not a huge difference. More than enough for me. I think it is even better than a Sportsman 700, especially above 30 mph. Where we were riding we were going slow on rocky trails most of the time. A few mud runs not too deep and a few sandy trails/dirt roads. I was riding with two friends that have Grizzly 700s. One is a 2013 and the other the updated 2016. One thing I noticed was that the Grizzlys had a little more ground clearance over my 570 with 25" tires on it. In one mild mud hole, the frame was starting to get high centered and dragging. The Grizzly’s didnt even with stock tires. Even with the old strut front suspension it worked great. Predictable handling and kept four wheels making contact with the ground almost all the time. The 570 tackled everything we ran into on the trail without any problems. EPS works great and reduced kick back from rocks. Seems like a forgiving machine that makes short work of difficult terrain. The most impressive thing I noticed was the fuel mileage. At 29 miles the gauge had just went from two empty bars to three. So basically 29 miles used just over 1/4 tank. That is impressive since the machine is not even broken in. The Grizzly’s used a similar amount of fuel. Engine was making a lot of heat but I expected that as its new. Very easy to clean after riding. Compared to cleaning a RZR it takes about one quarter the time. Overall I have to say I am very pleased with the 570. Glad I flipped for the EPS and EBS that comes with it. Would recommend to anyone looking for a utility atv.
