2002 400ex, carrier bearing went out so ordered parts and changed it out (no issues there). While putting it back together, noticed the hubs had quite a bit of play, so went ahead and tightened it all up with an impact wrench. Slapped the tires on and took it for a ride. We did notice couple weeks ago that rear left tire only had 3 out of 4 lug nuts, had not replaced the lug nut yet. Anyway it rode beautifully. The new bearings really made a difference. That was yesterday.
Today, took it out and rode lightly. Went to turn around in the road to put it up and bam! The rear left tire went rolling down the road. The lug nuts still on the lugs. (darn lucky it was at low speed, hate to think what could have happened at high speeds
See pics, the lug nuts welled out the rims? Has anyone ever seen this happen?
New rims are going to run me $60, would like to know why this happened before we throw new ones on.
Any ideas??? too loose? (remember, impact wrench) too tight? (can’t you impact the wheels?)
