300 Fourtrax – Locked up brakes

Hi Everyone,
I need some help with my brakes. I have a ’94 Fourtrax 300 which I recently took trail riding. It was the first time I ran it through sloppy mud and really rode it hard. Trying to keep up with all those 800cc machines is hard. lol. So here is my issue. I cleaned up the wheeler at a wash bay and put it in my garage. Didn’t ride it for probably 3 weeks. The next time I got on it I fired it up, shifted it in gear and tried to take off. It was completely lock up…the motor couldn’t move it an inch. After some investigation I noticed that the left front handle brake was locked solid. I couldn’t pull it an inch. I pulled the back right wheel off and tried to get the brake drum off which was not fun. I chipped the aluminum back plate because it would not budge. At any rate I put new shoes on and I’m having the same problem. I can’t get the drum over the new brake shoes. With a bit of persuasion, I can get the drum over them but I’m in the same situation. Everything is locked up. What am I doing wrong? Any advise for someone that knows very little about brakes? Merry Christmas and thanks for your help.
